Good Morning Paul, I've heard of these, but haven't seen one in person yet. I get a kick out of these folks that thing a bigger pan is better. I've seen Russian traps that don't have a pan at all, just a piece of wire.

Yeah Bill Duke has done a ton for the kiddos here in Oklahoma too. We all really appreciate it Bill

Practical modifications. These traps are not legal where I live due to jaw spread but I do use the 550 version and will get some 450s when there out this summer, I like them a lot.
@Northwoods2085 ай бұрын
I've been wanting to try some of those 850's. Everyone up here uses the AK#9's (a damn good trap to be sure) but theyre real spendy, and MB750's do the job, but they freeze down pretty easy, and they could be bigger.

Paul. That's one bad ass looking new duke wolf trap. I'm sure you will get the wolf. Happy for ya so.

Duke 850 other than pan tension works great for me. Pan size is a personal decision.

I agree with cutting the pan down to make a better catch, stout looking trap and I subscribed to Chance's channel.

they are a heck of a strong trap in 4 coil . i have a dozen of the 850 beaver traps . i run them in 2 coil to make it easier to set in the canoe . great looking mods on the wolf version .

Do a short vid on how you are setting/getting the 10 lbs pan tension. As there really is no pan tension setting device that goes up to 10ths that I have found.
@montanawolftrapper86665 ай бұрын
I made one from a Hal Sullivan pan tester. I removed the stock spring and added a heavier spring and then made the marks on it using a scale.

I use a plastic/ vinyl coated dumbbell to set tension on my coyote and beaver traps. Pick up a 10# or whatever whatever your requirements are. Works great and doesn't hurt the jaws.

I've caught five wolves in the Duke 850s, there are better wolf traps out there, but I don't believe for the money there is, and it is the trap I recommend to new wolf trappers. I don't have to have the 10 lb pan tension required in Montana, and so I actually prefer the old pans because they don't have all the tight joints that the new ones do where it is possible for a little water to get in and freeze up. I like about 6 lbs pan tension, lighter than most recommend, due to all the freeze/thaw and crappy snow I trap in. Which is about what the old ones came with, and it was easy enough to bend the dog a little if they were a little light. Other than that all I did with them new was adjust the pans so they were level, put nuts on the end of the spring rods, and replace the big wolf swivel directly under the trap with a smaller swivel that doesn't get in the way bedding them.
