The `Dena Barnes` isn`t really Dena at all, Just a session singer dubbed over the Inst. of Duke Browner.

@James Smith ......If it's an original 'general release' issue [Impact 1008 - June 1966] yes it's fetching approx £1200. [the demo / white label copy is only about half of that]. However, there were a lot of pressings / bootlegs put out - which were a slightly 'orangey' red colour and even a dirty light brown colour!

@James Smith......PS. James, thought you might be interested in the history of this incredible NS classic as it's actually a bit of a mystery! According to most sources, it was originally recorded by the Kaddoo Strings in 1966 on Impact Records [1005] with 'Crying Over You' as the B-side. [the A-side was the instrumental, 'Nothing But Love']. Both sides were produced by Duke Browner - who subsequently released his own vocal and instrumental version of 'Crying Over You' on Impact [1008] in 1966. Hopefully this is the one that your father has - but one simple way to check if it's a bootleg is by the sound quality. Although the instrumental version is pretty good, the vocal version is dreadful! However, the record was also released in 1967 by 'Devon & the Tartans' - a Rock-Steady band that formed that same year - featuring the Kaddoo Strings. [and if you listen carefully you can hear a strong Rock-Steady melody under the strings]. Which kind of makes you wonder if the Tartans weren't involved from the outset - despite the different release dates? In fact, 'Nothing But Love' was the official B-side and the Tartan's 'I Need You' the A-side. John Rhys [a Welshman living in the U.S] then released his version - also in 1967 - on Impact Records [1024] but again as a B-side to 'Boy Watcher' as the A-side. In my opinion ALL versions are brilliant and one of my all-time favourite NS sound. However, there is some confusion over the actual label numbers - which is largely due to the fact that there are a lot of bootlegs and counterfeit copies floating around [especially of the John Rhys version!] Fortunately I have all three 'official' versions - but the original 1966 Kaddoo Strings general release [with its 'pillar-box' red label] is by far the rarest - although it doesn't fetch the same high prices as Duke Browner's version.
