There's a lot of truth to this. I was a young teenager at the time absolutely IN LOVE WITH HOOPS. That UNLV team got a lot of coverage during their undefeated season, but when they lost their first game of the season to that Duke squad in the Final 4, it's like the focus shifted to Duke (who took the ball & ran with it... a lot because they had the main ingredient you need to have if you want people to keep talking about you... a lot of people hated those Blue Devils)... people simply stopped talking about that UNLV team. I don't think it helped matters that Larry Johnson didn't live up to the expectations folks had for him coming out of college. Whereas Chris Webber, Juwan Howard & Jalen Rose's stars shined brighter in the NBA.

But the fab 5 had to prove themselves and and actually be dominate to get the hype train going. Honestly I believe these duke freshman are more talented top to bottom but the FAB 5 had the distinct advantage down low with C Web and Howard. It would be dope if they were able to play not just one game against each other but more of a series. Like a 3-5 game series. And I'm a Michigan guy but I don't really think even C Web could stop Zion from doing pretty much whatever he damn well chose to do on that court.

sagi alex the top 3 picks of this years draft will be so heavily valued that it will be almost impossible to get both
@JoshuaFrick35 жыл бұрын
Outside of doing something stupid, like if PHX trades Devin Booker for the #1 pick, teams simply don't have the assets to acquire two top 2 picks. I mean, if you're one of the teams whose is bad enough to finish in the lottery with a chance to win a top 2 pick, then you're not very good. I guess maybe the Knicks could do it, but then you're talking trade Porzingis for the other top 2 pick... Why do that? Anything short of a major young star like Booker or Porzingis, no other team sitting with a top 2 pick is going to deal it away when Zion & RJ are sitting right there. No amount of future draft picks will do it because those future draft picks are not guaranteed top 2 picks and the talent in future drafts won't be as proven as Zion & RJ already are... it's not a 2k move. It's impossible unless you want to trade a proven NBA young superstar for a college freshman.

I was in high school when the fab five was rolling at Michigan and I’ve watched all of Duke’s games that I can. Duke definitely has the athletic edge, and the defensive edge, and I believe they could outscore anyone (oh and they are coaches by the best ever, Michigan had issues controlling their kids, much less having them play within a team unit) they are both great, and Michigan was first to do it at a time when freshman good enough to be in the nba were in the nba (usually). I can’t see a way in which (if possible) Duke would not not win at least 7of 10 games against that Michigan team.

2014 Kentucky Wildcats started five freshmen: Julius Randle, James Young, Andrew and Aaron Harrison and Dakari Johnson. They weren't dominant in the regular season but made it all the way to the NCAA finals, just as the Fab Five did. (They actually had a sixth McDonald's All-American, Marcus Lee, in addition to the the five aforementioned.)

The Fab Five were literally embarrassed and outclassed in the NC. These kids really didn't live up to their hype. They had 8 losses in an inferior league that year too. The Duke players at the time wore T-Shirts during warm up that said "You can talk the talk but can you walk the walk?". That was a direct diss against the Fab Five.

Look....I'm a HUGE Duke Fan and have been since the 91-92 Season.Ever since "The Shot" by Christian Laettner in the Regional Semifinals against Kentucky I've been a Diehard Duke Fan.This is not even a discussion though.The Fab 5 are by far and away the better team and had the bigger cultural impact on College Basketball.The only thing fantastic about this Duke Team is Zion Williamson.One man cannot carry an entire team.Michigan was loaded and had 3 players who carried that team in Chris Webber,Jalen Rose and Juwan Howard.ESPN has bumped their head on this one.This shouldn't even be a serious question 😂

Lmao 4 of the Duke players will get drafted in the first round as freshmen. 3 in the top 5. Webber and Jawun only ones drafted top 5 not as freshmen. Jalen wasn't good in the NBA. Jimmy went second round. Ray didn't even get drafted. At the end of the day the Duke players will have better careers, I'll take Duke's 5 over Fab 5 any day.
@realballer38245 жыл бұрын
+Wither so you going to compare how good a player is by were they get drafted 😂😂😂 these are 2 different eras of basketball and let's be real if duke lost to gonzaga what makes you think there going to be the fab 5 😂😂😂
@Withxr5 жыл бұрын
@@realballer3824 You acting like the Fab 5 was undefeated lmao. Gonzaga is a good team that was full of upperclassmen and they lost by 1 point. They ain't going to lose again. I'm comparing how good a player is by draft because it shows if NBA teams actually want the player and if they can contribute in the bigger leagues. The whole point of college ball at an elite level is to prepare for the draft. I guarantee you more Duke players will have better careers than the fab 5 and if they win the national chip they are definitely better than the Fab 5 lmao. Fab 5 played in a shit era where players weren't as good so they had to stay 4 years and they still couldn't win lmao even after staying multiple years.
