Dulux Trade Heritage Eggshell - weird issues

Oh, boy, do I have a story for you! So, I was all excited to use my brand new can of Dulux Heritage eggshell to paint my woodwork, but when I opened it up, I was in for a surprise. There were things in there that I definitely wasn't expecting. It was like a treasure hunt, except the treasure was bits of who-knows-what floating around in my paint.
I mean, I've heard of getting bang for your buck, but this was ridiculous. I had to strain out all these little pieces using some cheap Lidl Veggie bags that I had lying around. And let me tell you, my paint looked like it had been through the wringer by the time I was done with it.
But hey, the good news is that the paint itself was great! I just couldn't understand why they had to throw in some bonus surprises. Maybe they thought I needed a DIY project within my DIY project? Who knows.
Now, I'm no paint chemist expert, but has anyone else had the same issue with Dulux Heritage eggshell or any other paint for that matter? I mean, I'm all for finding hidden gems in unexpected places, but I draw the line at finding them in my paint can. So, if anyone out there knows the secret to avoiding surprise paint additives, let me know. And while you're at it, don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more hot paint content!

Phil in case you haven’t seen it yet, Dulux Heritage eggshell is now available in ‘true white’ so there is an off the shelf option now.

I had a similar problem with the dulux diamond Matt when I get to the topcoat I always strain it out but I use a stainless steel square kitchen colander works like a charm!

I've had too much of this type of thing lately so if I'm brushing, spraying or rolling i strain everything. I buy strainers by the box from my paintbrush and I can get gallons and gallons out of a single strainer before it becomes no good. It's amazing what you find in paint that you think is clean.

ar2 was getting snotty about 6 months ago then recent batches have been clean. my nearest stockist is paintwell so youve got to factor in what stock theyve had delivered. am going back to jonmatt though ive never had any issues with. all manufacturers seems to have off days

This is just a guess, but I reckon that when they make up white paint they put blue in it. To make it look more white. Also - and this is also a guess - paint requires the oxygen in air to cure, so maybe the can hadn't been sealed 100% somewhere or other? If you had some especially valuable paint you wanted to keep, you could always fill the space in the can with argon.

I’ve had no issues in the velvet Matt but not tried the eggshell yet👍🏻I’m having some mixed soon so I’ll check the lid before they mix it. I always check when they mix 10l tubs for skin on the lid as this definitely gets mixed up in the paint.

them bits dont look like skin bits but more like the machine that puts the mixture into the tin before shaking up the tin, if they dont keep the tubes clear and clean it will blow paint thats gone hard along with the fresh paint you end up with flakes inside the tin.

hi phil. talking of eggshell paint have you tried valspar trade eggshell for wood and metal. it needs a really good stir but it isnt too thick out of the tin and covers really well. great video by the way.

It could be the pigmentation that split... That sounded pretty good from a complete amateur 😂 did buy some johnston's non-drip gloss last week to do my skirting boards. the only word for it was snotty not good. Cheers Phil. I would try water base paint again in the future but durability is a major factor for me 👍

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Highfield thanks for taking the time, beginning of pandemic I rented out my home after decorating it with mainly water-based paint. The renters had a dog that was bought after they rented my home it's scratched paint from doors skirting boards window boards all carpet and lamina had to be thrown away, the thing is where I used oil base paint on the landing and stairs there were dents from scratches in the wood but the paint was still intact so because of this I have rubbed sanded filld etc all of the woodwork down, undercoat and the top coat of oil-based combi color gloss rustoleum I'm no professional but this went on fairly well and looks very good to me. as it's not readily available and I run out for one room I used the johnston's oil based non-drip gloss however it was very slimy although it said do not mix. When I finally take my house back and I'm living in it full-time again myself then I will definitely use water-based paints. In my experience I don't think water-based paints are tough enough but maybe it's me using the wrong paint... Thanks for doing these videos Phil the Portuguese section was great 😂

non drip gloss is thixotropic which means don't mix it up or it will revert back to its liquid form. Watch the video i did about moving from oil based to water based and using a grip primer for extra adhesion, then use a quality water based paint.. watch the ones I've tried out ;)and see which you like the look of.

I've noticed with the watebased eggshells, satins & gloss that it marks easier, as in it gets black scratch marks and holds fingerprints & dirt.. currently spraying zinsser on a job & on the windowsill it's marking as soon as anyone puts anything on it. Not chipping or peeling just scratching & holding dirt.

Who mixed it? Brewers? 😂 edit- I wrote that before you mentioned Dulux. I have had some soft Sheens from mixed in Johnstones and had the same issues as if it wasn’t mixed properly or could it be temperature fluctuations whilst the base colour has been sat around?
