Wow! What memories this brought to the surface. Free flight is so pure and the experience of this guy. Beautiful. Thanks for posting!

Delightful. Utterly delightful in every way. There's hope for the world whilst old boys and their models like this exist.

What a great rubber model. No need for a dethermalizer?

i remember as a kid in the 70s and saw a tv program and it showed this kind of glider ,they used a fuse like a rope which i think would burn through a rubber band and would set the rudder to do a turn and would eventually circle and land it was amazing to see as a kid, loved the vid

It's crazy to think about where it would wind up if the dethermilizer malfunctioned.

Nothing quite like flying Open Rubber (Unlimited Rubber) powered Free flight model aircraft! Must get around to repairing my 600 sq. inch wing model, modifying the design a bit and trying again Bit of a shock to realise that its now 40 years old! Takes half a hank of rubber.

A beautiful giant in tissue and silkspan, I guess. If the stop was more advanced the model would have started it's majestic glide at maximum altitude. More to the point, that motor could be stronger, say 34 strands by 48" and it would seriously start to climb and then, depending on the wind and real estate, it could glide forever. The video was great.

What more rubber!! It’s already got one pound. I could motorise a few coupes and still have enough money to buy a beer after the flying session. Does he have shares in a plantation?

I bet that wouldn’t come down in a thermal even when dt ed.
