Handrail skating has been gnarly pretty much since I started (2000) with gradual growth in gnarliness each year...But the shit Tyshawn is doing would literally be incomprehensible 10 years ago. No one else on this earth can pop flip tricks that high or long. It's a freakish level of talent. Nyjah's skating is predicated on practicing at parks and having no fear. If the award was for "stuntman of the year" then yeah, Nyjah takes the cake - but Tyshawn is def (street) skater of the year (IMO.)

It's not that Nyjah got robbed, it's that Tfunk and Louie were both more deserving. In 2018, Joslin or Evan Smith should have won. Tyshwan is a great skater, but severely over rated. Even his pop is rivaled by Tiago or Chris Pfanner. Tyshawn is so hyped, and is definitely a great skater, but not one of the VERY best. To be fair TJ Rodgers put out killer footy while beating cancer and being cool af, so if it's not just about the skating, he is my pick.

frankly i would have been okay with anyone *except* tyshawn lol to me both louie and t funk had the more entertaining video parts. i relate most with tristian's style since i gravitate more towards the hesh side of things but even still, louie's footage in the converse video specifically was a great vibe. to me those two (louie and t funk) were authentic, down to earth, core skaters that i enjoyed watching. Great analysis. Tho I have to say I’ve always had issue with the time stamp argument. A great video part usually takes about 2 years (or more) to produce. So a lot of the footage being old is inevitable. But as long as it holds up by the time of its release, it should be recognized. Not to mention that Nyjah likely would have had more recent stuff but his injury put him out for the second half of this year. Also, Tyshawn legit said he was withholding footage from Godspeed (2020) for this year. So he’s actually guilty of the same thing

Tyshawn said in the For Days interview that he was holding onto footage from 2019 for this soty run, so the age of Nyjah's footage is entirely irrelevant IMO. Also if comparing a video like Nyjah's to MJ's Fully Flared part, it's pretty incredible that if Fully Flared was produced in a span of 5 years as the Final Flare doc always circles back to, that Nyjah put out that much footage from just 2019 onwards. Definitely comparing apples to oranges with MJ's super tech craziness with a bunch of lines and Nyjah's death defying rail/stair stuff, but I don't think it can be underplayed how impressive it is for Nyjah's part to have been produced in 3 years.

SOTY/Thrasher just lost all its respect/authenticity from most of the skaters in this culture. Thrasher made it political by the skater who worked with them the most instead of the skater who skated the best, this year truly proved that. I think Tyshawn is a TREMENDOUS skater but Nyjah’s part is probably the best part I’ve ever seen my entire life, if you’re not a fan of his, there’s no denying he 100% deserved it, talking strictly skating (which the award is supposed to represent)

Jolly & Tyshawn said that half his clips that they filmed were during the making of god speed which was dropped on 2020 that’s why tyshawn had next to no clips in it, so they were sitting on the clips for atleast 2 years. Dude Tyshawn called GH a racist for calling out the switch table ollie in his livestream, don't think that's positive interaction with the online community. GH even said he's somebody you're not allowed to critize so he came at it with explicit reasons and examples to back it up, and hell even used freakin paint to draw it out lol. That was never the case. It usually comes down to which part is better or who overall represents the year. That’s why people get mad every year. There no rules really. Same way I can say nyjah should have won in 2011 or Even though David Gonzales won SOTY in 2012, some people thought Guy Mariano should have won that year.
