I think that the ski rear view mirror is considered a dumb invention because it obscures what you can see in front of you, distracting your attention and making you crash. I've never ski'd in my life so this is just a guess, but it's like a rear view mirror for skateboards which I do have experience in skating, and seeing what is in front of you is extremely important and you rarely look behind to see what is behind you. 🤷‍♂️ even when there are other skaters around, you still need to focus on what is in front of you.
