Honestly, you'd think some of the circus employees would have supervised the tents, or that the circus itself do better with fencing the animals (in this case, the elephants) than just a flimsy rope. Those kids - particularly that one red headed one - weren't supposed to be that close to any of the animals, let alone the elephants. And, that no matter if the elephants are part of the circus, they're still animals by the end of the day. *Of course* Mrs Jumbo would've been pissed off when that one kid were cruelly teasing Dumbo.

Plus, Ms. Jumbo got herself into further trouble throwing the ring leader into the elephant bath seen from 1:25-1:27 which is why they saw her as a "Mad Elephant" as seen in the next scene not shown.

Mrs. Jumbo goes mad because these snobby kids were harassing Dumbo, which he was unaware of. Then the Ringmaster and Circus staff misinterpret her rampage as general aggression. Even worse was how they just separated her from her child, and the other elephants didn’t feel shocked by what happened, they laughed it off and continue to ridicule and ignore Dumbo. We were even implied that the other circus animals were also feeling the same way without us even seeing it from their perspectives. What followed felt like nothing was getting better: Timothy whispers to the Ringmaster an opportunity for Dumbo to gain stardom again, yet he fumbles and ruins everything. Despite that, such would’ve been righteous on his part since 1) the elephants weren’t even enjoying the act and how the Ringmaster took too long to allow it to finish, and 2) their injuries should’ve taught them a lesson, but then they went from ridiculing him to saying “he is no longer an elephant”, effectively pretending that he doesn’t exist. Dumbo being turned into a clown did make him popular with crowds over, but it was as low as it gets for his miserable life.

Years ago, I worked at a very strict Jewish school, and the Rabbi warned all the kids that circuses were off limits to them. Those kids wanted to see a circus that camped right there in the city, but he was adamant, animals were never to be used for entertainment. A week later one of the elephants went crazy and killed his trainer, then stormed out of the tent, threw the rest of the trainers with his trunk, turned over a car, and had to be shot. I watched footage of the "meltdown" and I thought, "Well if you zap me with a cattle prod and whack my ear with a bill hook, I'll go into beast mode too!"
