Dumfries to New Cumnock. A trip over the Glasgow South Western through the lowlands of Scotland.

A very scenic trip along the Glasgow South Western route between Dumfries and New Cumnock. Heading North in some very nice Autumn weather we pass through Sanquhar and Kirkconnel. This was filmed on a Road learning locomotive in the Autumn of 2020. Due to the number of person in the cab under instruction the talking was virtually non-stop so the sound has had to be removed unfortunately. We used to holiday at Auldgirth station in the 70s. Our friend Alec March owned it and they lived in the bottom level, and the platform level was a holiday let. Eating breakfast and watching the trains, happy days.

I remember Class 25s and Mark I coaches, and Kirkconnel was the only station between Kilmarnock and Dumfries! Hard to believe the northern part of this stretch was mining country, but that was before even my time...

I know why there's so much talking in the cab: the driver has to be kept awake. I failed. However, another piece of Britain new to me.
