A segment from Sam and Ben's "Driving Under Musical Influence: A Cross Country Road Trip"
Performing a cover of " Truckin' " by the Grateful Dead.
Iowa was the only State along our route that we made an exception to the rule.
Instead of recording at the State welcome sign and picking a song with a theme related to the state...
We instead took the opportunity to play a classic by one of our favorite bands, the Grateful Dead, at the Iowa 80 "World's Largest Truck Stop" because it just seemed too damn perfect.
Ben and I set out from NY with a guitar, a mandolin, and a few percussion instruments and some ability to play them between us. We have played in a few different bands together and in fact met and became friends over a campfire guitar jam sesh back in the day.
We gave ourselves a challenge for the road.
We would record a song in front of every state welcome sign along our route, choosing songs with a theme related to the state, and learning each song on the road as we were driving to the next stop.
We took turns sleeping on a cot in the back. We took four days.
Next stop... Nebraska!!
