I had some old "outdated" hydrogen peroxide under the bathroom sink. Not needing it anymore I dumped half the bottle down the toilet with the intention of getting rid of it. Well, the next day some nasty hardened sub water-line stains in the toilet that I had tried many times unsuccessfully to remove had simply disappeared.

Not relevant to the topic, but H2O2, hydrogen peroxide, takes blood out of most fabrics. No stain or residue. Most women know that. We used gallons of it in the ER where I worked for over 20 years. It is wonderful at removing so many stains etc and isn’t expensive nor as environmentally nasty as commercial toilet cleaners. Haven’t used them in ages! Great stuff.

@@dracofirex Since most of the blood I removed from clothing with H2O2 was acquired at work … ER nurse … it was almost always fresh. On a lab coat or uniform, both supplied by the hospital. Smart Health workers know about hydrogen peroxide works on blood stains. My dentist advise me not to buy expensive bottles of mouthwash (to much alcohol) use water and couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide (never swallow), mix according to your liking because you might swallow a little on your throat and you will not like it at all. You can also use denture cleaner on your toilet bowl. Have a clean suave day EVERYONE. Thanks for all the tips and sharing.

If the toilet tank is brown that could be iron bacteria, and you’d need to get a professional to get your water system cleaned and filtered. There’s options including bleach, ozone or hydrogen peroxide. I’d avoid the bleach option, as ozone and hydrogen peroxide are much healthier. Hydrogen peroxide even kills mold, whereas bleach can actually cause more problems with mold. And bleach is toxic to people.

Vinegar. Not a cleaning one, but a cooking one. Vinegar works well on hard water. Once every five years or so, you have to undo the water connection and fill the hose with vinegar. A plastic bag and gravity works. Cycle the ice maker to run the vinegar through. I find that this quiets noisy icemakers. Mine started sounding like a parrot. A valve gets hard water buildup.

Peroxide at 3% will not be a problem . . . the small amount you're actually using will quickly be consumed by the organic crud in the septic system.

Copper drain pipe? I've never seen one. Toilet drain lines are usually PVC. Old plumbing was cast iron.
@KrankyClownFPS
@KrankyClownFPS 19 күн бұрын
@@mattv9240 not the point. Components in a toilet can be copper, and if they try on a toilet they’d think it works on the sink more than likely, Good for you though, you looked at pipes 👍

@@mattv9240 because everyone who drives learns to do so on a KZbin tutorial 🤣 plumbers get paid well not to be dipshits who just poor peroxide down the drain blindly rite? What about the supply lines YT egg? They are often pvc OR copper, a liquid that resolves them would be detrimental don’t you think? Don’t you? Because brass couldn’t possibly be 60% copper, and plenty of toilets couldn’t possibly have brass parts….. ur a jackass

I love the drop-in sanitation products because it keeps me in work replacing the rubber seals destroyed by chlorine. Chlorine cuts the life of the toilet tank seals and refill mechanism from a decade or two down to maybe two or three years if you're lucky. I appreciate you don't want your kids eating a toilet cake, but honestly, there are better solutions to bathroom hygiene! Hydrogen peroxide, which is heavily diluted in the form shown, is a solution I personally use, although I typically turn off the water to the tank, drain and then douse liberally with the peroxide. As for the bowl, this should be cleaned regularly, including the spaces around the toilet if you have a man in the house!

I imagine if it's been sealed and in a cool place the whole time you should be fine. If not, a bottle of peroxide costs you no more than $1.50 or so at Walmart.

Pour some onto a slice of raw potato. If it fizzes, it's good. If it doesn't, it's gone bad. ("Bad" is relative: the peroxide literally turns into water.)

How long do I let it sit inside a stained bowl before going in with a brush?
@Pez2176

I would say maybe 30 mins..? That’s just a guess for the 1st cleaning. Then depending on how bad the stain is, I’d try to leave it as long as I could, using less sitting time for the daily/weekly cleanings.
