Truth... We pour a fair amount of concrete. Primarily residential construction, but our concrete supplier has a driver, who's the best I've seen. In most situations he can screet it for you. I love to see him pull up. Of course you can't always have him. I've tipped him a couple times before, next time I see him, he'll be due a lunch on me

Some people in the comments: "if the company is charging for the truck by the hour, he lost money for the company because he did the homeowner a favor..." Common sense: wouldn't it take less time to just dump the truck out in one spot and leave?

No because that is not how they lay gravel roads. Usually they will drive forward and unload. So instead of backing up and then driving forward and dumping he just done it on his way down.. This is also a bit dangerous.

Every time I do this for new customers they trip out. They tell me no other drivers have been willing to spread because they're either worried about tipping or doing a horrible job lol. It's easy, just need to commit and know how to gap your gate accordingly for different materials. For already existing single lane roads that need material due to water damage or whatever i built a tall half pyramid/triangle ish thingy out of 3/8" aluminum plate with internal trussing that bolts just inside of my gate that split's the load into two strips as I spread. Leaving two strips that are around 2.5' wide at my wheel width. It just doesn't make sense to waste all that material in the center of the road where your tires never touch and will need to be done again after the next big rains anyway. The customers all agree so far, especially when they see how far a 20 ton load stretches that way. We'll get well over 50" of rain in 24 hours at least once a year here on the east side on the big island of Hawaii not to mention the rest of the rain we get. Over 300" a year in some area's. Job security for sure.

Now this is a good driver. I finally got the hang of this. For anyone who does not know, you can't spread forward on felt like this because it gets all tangled up in the trucks tires and axles. The rock holds it down and keeps that from happening if you back spread. I know because I was a rookie and once tried the stupid move like that because at the time, I didn't know how to back spread.
