Those laptops are so old, they’re not worth anything. They are no longer protected because the OS is out of date and MS office isn’t compatible with the older Macs anymore either. The ones that are bulging are because after a while, the batteries swell. Same thing happens to most Apple products over time. It does piss me off that the school threw them in the dumpster instead of recycling them properly. There are specific protocols to recycle electronics, specifically ones from schools because the hard drives have to be destroyed.

Sell them on eBay in two lots six. List them as non-working for parts only. Apple items bring a premium no matter what the condition. They are very desirable and should sell for at least $150 for each lot and that's really cheap. You can also set an auction with the base price starting at $100.00 per lot. The auction idea would be great content if you do a seven-day auction and provide a verbal daily viewer update and a dedicated video as the auctions come to a close. Good luck.

I work at a school with technology. 1) when we get rid of stuff, we take out the hard drive which you have probably already figured out. 2) If a SCHOOL is getting rid of something....it is old!! If we kept all the old technology so someone could use it, we would have to hire additional staff, get new servers to run old programs, and laptops have a MAX warranty of 5 years so we would have buy all replacement parts which are more expensive than newer ones. 3) From what I have read about ewaste it is basically they sell it to an underdeveloped country and melt off the plastic so they can salvage the wiring. 4) With technology, there are very RARE occasions when someone wants an older version of something.I am glad you tried but just wanted to give you some information to save you and anyone reading this future heartache.

There's a billionaire in China who made her fortune recycling paper and things like computers. The people work for nothing in extremely dangerous conditions without safety equipment inhaling poisonous fumes. The crazy thing is, that woman recycled our waste and sold it back to us. Sold us on paying more for recycled paper because it was good for the environment while the people who worked for her were treated like chattel.

I understand your frustration my dear. There are many things I see people just trash, and I wished I could understand why they don't give it away. I never can understand.

My lovely mixed family - I totally get your frustration. But ppl always complain that "education" needs more money. Things like this is what makes us doubt that the education money being allocated to schools is used wisely. I'm sure some of it is, but why can't they give away these "previously used/old" computers to families that have a demonstrated need? Or auction them off & use the money towards classroom materials, etc. There is probably some sort of illogical regulation that doesn't allow this; but "we the people" need to fight back against tax payer monies being "thrown away". I hope you have a good week...

As a teacher, I understand that you think throwing out laptops is wasteful. However, those laptops are 11 years old and current software WILL NOT work on them. Trust me when I say we try to give them to needy family but they don't want them, Just like most of us, we want what is new. Technology is unique. When something is old, there is no tech support for these so schools are "on their own" if something happens. Current laptops usually only have a MAX warranty of 5 years. We would have to hire more staff just to keep them running. And I didn't know this before I started working with the tech side of things, replacement parts on old things cost way more than replacement parts for new computers. (think about how inexpensive it is to buy and new printer compaired to buying ink for an old one.) I hope you don't think I am ranting at you. I am just trying to explain why schools "throw out" old technology.

Whats crazy is I'm actually watching this video on that exact same model MacBook. They are all 2009-2010 MacBook A1342s. They are still worth something if you clean them up and sell them as is for parts on eBay. If any of them are fixable, they could be worth around $100 to $200 each. the logo on the back changes brightness with the screen... Turn the screens brightness up and the logo goes brighter too.

That’s so crazy that those computers were so beat up! I mean the things besides the batteries because that is not the kids fault, but the things like the keys and the drawing on the computer, etc. My senior year my high school got MacBooks for every student to use and we had to have “inspections” on them every 2-3 months to make sure we were keeping them in good shape. So everyone kept them in excellent shape not only because of the inspections but everyone knew how expensive they were and what a luxury it was to get to use them. This was nice because then the computers the seniors had went to the freshman the next year and then the school could keep using them for a while. This school obviously used these for a long time since they were 2009 MacBooks but I still can’t believe the kids didn’t care about them enough to take better care of them.

Guys are hilarious and entertaining. Hey guys should build a wood pole with a really good hook and have a heavy duty light ladder that you can carrie over your shoulder. I'll be fast going in and out.

I’ve been watching you both off and on and it amazes me to no ends to what get thrown out by most. Here in western Canada 🇨🇦 it’s a bit hard to do these dumpsters as they are usually locked up
@sandyoklahomatransient85574 жыл бұрын
I'd make sure the MacBooks weren't stolen being they were mixed in personal trash in a store dumpster. Most schools would use their own trash bins to dispose of stuff. Just a thought!

It wouldn't matter anyway because the MacBooks are not that easily because Apple's encryption method I wouldn't waste my time with storm right backyou couldn't pay me to take a macbook or any of Apple's productsI'm glad they are brainwashed Coke that want to pay $1,000 for a f****** laptop I got to be out of my f****** damn mind. How come ppl do a garage sale at their house, but don’t throw their own trash out on trash day at their own curb instead of dumpsters??
