Dumpster Diving- Wow! Store Employees waited for me to finish dumpster diving!

I quit Hallmark when they wanted us to break and toss everything after the season. So wasteful. I understand when the things are damaged, but really perfectly good stuff. I would toss the damaged cards, but saved the envelopes. Luckily one of my first managers would credit the store and let me take stuff home. I was able to donate stuffed animals and toys to school functions for years!

I am a teacher and always keep cards on hand for my students. They tell me when it is someone in their family is having a birthday and I help them write something inside. They love it

I think it’s wonderful what you do. Retirement centers use cards to do projects. It is great. Plus the use them as bingo gifts for them to buy with bingo bucks then hey can give to their loved ones. It’s really neat. I watched my mom get so excited to be able to give to family and friends and the staff. She would get so excited. It makes my heart feel good to see these finds. Your local nursing home or assisted living facility would be a great place to donate those cards. The people on those facilities haven't seen or heard from their family in months and it would sure make them happy to have some way to communicate with their families.

Hi Steven and Steph been awhile my back has been out. Been pretty much bedridden. Decided to watch this video so good to see nice employees let you look through the dumpster. That's awesome. Makes you feel goodness in the world with all the bitterness we see now. Truly glad you found all those cards. If you don't want to take them to a thrift store drop them off at a nursing home the residents can make crafts with them or use them for their residents. Just an idea if you want. My Mom was in a nursing home for a couple weeks before I bought her home put her on hospice she only lived 5 months but it was time I truly enjoyed every second with her. Well since your thrift store isn't open might give your closest nursing home a call see if they would like them or if they don't your children's hospital they have crafts for the kids they would love them to work with. Years ago we'd have custom Christmas cards made for our personal and business use. I'd enjoy listening to holiday music in the afternoon and writing little notes in each card to each recipient. Afterwards I'd bundle them up and take them to the post office which was festive with holiday decorations. It seemed like all the people around me shared the same holiday spirit. All of that dwindled out around 2008-2009 so I suppose the recession had a lot to do with it. Then the cost of postage became prohibitive. Now with the Internet you can send all types of greetings for any occasion and even attach giftcards to them! We haven't sent or received Christmas cards for about 6 years now. These days "the card" is reserved for special occasions. Odd isn't it?

A few years ago I was hunting for moving boxes and was getting boxes from these medal tote things and my friend & I found 3 boxes of cards and there was close to 800 cards in each box . Birthday , anniversary , graduation , communion , wedding , Valentine's, sympathy , get well. I used only like 50 of them so far. I donated a bunch to the veterans home and to the House Of Compassion ( homeless shelter )

Be mindful of where you shop. International corporate greed is filling up our landfills. Thrift stores are excellent recycler. Can you imagine how wonderful the thrift stores are near Steve and Steph 😀😀😀

Catherine I agree ! La Local Government clearly have to do more on recycling! Tax those businesses more on rubbish then they'll start to reduce it ! Thought California was smarter than that ? Planting water saving Australian Tree's 🇦🇺 Plants & wacking up solar great ! What are they doing about recycling ? South Australia have had drnk can & bottle deposits since the 1970s theres even deposit on cardboard ice coffee tetra pack. I just took back 3 bags of crushed cans 10c ea adds up I got $70 Its great for schools sports clubs etc to fund raise NO LITTER 😄 Just introduced from 2021 NO SINGLE USE ITEMS straws cups knives forks spoons plastic fruit bags etc etc 🤔 Sad

-We have an Assistance League where I am and I'll tell you, the women that volunteer there are the best. It is only about a block from where I live so I go as often as possible, sometimes just to look but usually, I buy something.
