PULLED FROM A DUMPSTER: Ultimate Trash to Treasure Dresser Restoration

This was pulled from a trash bin; saved at the last moment! It found its way to my workroom and I'll do what I can to make sure it is ready for the next 50 years. Using oxalic acid, Mohawk markers, and Odie's Oil, I'll try to make this as good as new. Or maybe even better than new!

Joy to tell you, Angie, this is my favourite KZbin restoration to date! You made all the right choices making the grain all that it could be and then some. I was sceptical but the blackened hardware created visual harmony with the inlaid lines [also in black] and visually deepened the darkest of the walnut tones. You actually gave this piece character it hadn't yet shown - while many 'makeovers' often erase patina and character. Big hug to you.

Angie, you really brought this little dresser back to life! The veneer looks like it glows & the pattern on the drawers retouched dark & the repaint on the unusual & attractive drawer pulls, really fit the pattern emphasis and brought a modern twist to the whole piece. Great job saving this piece from the dump. Still many many years of use in it & will add a classic yet modern look to some lucky persons home. One thing I really appreciate in you is your attention to detail outside & inside a refurbish job. Outstanding as usual. And thank you for not just throwing paint on it like so many others sadly do. I think a lot of furniture goes in the trash because most people just don't have the skill and knowledge to refurbish it. I am so glad you went with the original hardware. It is so unusual and it looks fantastic in black!

That's likely some of it, but it could be donated or sold to someone who can/wants to redo it, without wasting precious resources in the landfill. We've become such a throwaway society that our first instinct if we don't want something is to throw it away. And that is incredibly sad.

I started watching your channel because I have an old piece I'd like to redo. I have to say I am enjoying your work so much that now I just love watching you transform everything you do. I love to refinish old pieces because, well I'm kind of cheap and like you hate to see things go into our landfills. I agree with a previous post that we are such a wasteful society and people think nothing of throwing things out when they no longer want them or they don't work anymore. My father was a dumpster diver from way back and I guess I inherited his love of making something "shine" again, it's so rewarding to say you did that! Not cheap, thrifty! There's not reason to go spend thousands on new furniture. And to be perfectly honest, most new furniture just isn't built well at all. I grew up with this kind of old 1950's- 1960's funiture, my Mom n Dad bought it brand new when I was a kid, my younger sister has it, now. I Love recycling too, you did a great job lovingly recycling that nice furniture, thank you for saving the planet. Every year the small town I live in, has a Spring clean up, and people put everything they are throwing away on the curb, I always manage to rescue somethings, that can be upcycled or fixed

I live in a little town in SE Oregon. We’ve had thunderstorms nearly every night for two weeks. The wildfire crews have been working all winter to clear up fire dangers. One of the prescribed burn areas caught fir due to lightning strike. Thankfully, the crews were right there and it didn’t have a chance to grow. It still took a week to put it out. I hope your fire season improves and the danger is never that close again.❤

Ha, Ha....your super advice about inspecting used furniture before you put it in your car struck a nerve with me. My husband found a beautiful solid maple drop-front desk at a Salvation Army Store and we couldn't wait to get it home, clean it up and make it our own. When the moving guys were bringing it into our home, I happened to see underneath the piece for the first time. It was full of huge spiders!! YIKES!! Luckily it was easily taken care of out in the garage, but a good reminder that you never know where used furniture is coming from or what it has been exposed to in the process. Great video...as always! Loved the natural walnut and black hardware.

Nice! I always love the magical touch you have to breathe new life into old furniture. There are a number of wild fires all over Canada at the moment - last week we had 2 days of visible fire smog in Ottawa complete with "stay indoors" warnings!

The black definitely adds a visual punch to the piece. Looking beyond being a functional dresser, I could see it serving as a side board in a dining area or as an entertainment/tv stand in the living room. Amazing transformation.
