Dumpster Gateway Restoration into XP Gaming Powerhouse!

Here we go again, I did my best to keep this one short, but alas... Long! I'm super disappointed in the loss of the GeForce 9800 GT, but I'm still super happy with the results! BIOS and RAM shenanigans cost me a lot of time troubleshooting, but we got it in the end!

Man, great find. A word of advice - when you grab these from dumpsters, you should probably open them outside. Last thing you need is a nest of tiny roaches running out and breeding in your house. That happened to a guy who used to mod Xbox consoles.

@@gregghernandez2714 I had that happen one time when I bought a game boy on eBay lol, and they also found a bunch of dead roaches in a Texas Instruments TI99/4A computer from the '70s. I'm usually at least somewhat decent about checking to make sure they're not full of bugs lol, but that is extremely good advice

@@LowSpecActionSquad Yeah, the guy who taught me how to Mod Xboxes told me that story. After that, whenever I bought an Xbox (I bought and modded about 9 of them), I would keep it in my driveway, then run inside and go and get my trusty Saran Wrap or a good plastic garbage bag that I knew had no holes in it. I would then wrap it really tight, put some masking tape on it, then leave it in the garage for at least a week. That way, anything that was inside would not survive. His story scared the hell out me. BTW that is one nasty looking aluminum heat sink. Looks like a job for Simple green.

If you upgrade them, they can technically run Windows 10, and various forms of modern Linux. These can be very useful if you don't have access to the latest and the greatest!

My first PC was an AMD Athlon powered Gateway PC. Ridiculously overpriced, but it was a nice PC. Plus it was one of the first things I used to build my credit. I remember thinking how amazing an 800mhz processor was. I spent hours playing the Aliens vs Predator, Duke Nukem and Tomb Raider games.

Good video, you should try using a 'lite' Linux distro for machines like this, like Ubuntu MATE or Xubuntu...way better than old Windows.

I have an unfortunate habit of thinking of all kinds of ideas for these computers, so I usually end up keeping them, thinking I'm going to continue messing around with them. I probably SHOULD sell them, I've got well over 50 fully built computers by this point, most ranging from the i386 up through Nehalem. Maybe I should try and sell one of them, and make a video on how that ends up working out

I use soft makeup brushes, like the kind used for people's faces. They are cheap, and easy to get. You want something very soft, with fine bristles, to get into the cracks and crevices. You want to be gentle with the brush, don't use a lot of force
