Dune 2000 is a real-time strategy video game, developed by Intelligent Games and released by Westwood Studios in 1998 for Microsoft Windows.It was later ported to the PlayStation in 1999.It is a partial remake of Dune II, which is loosely based on Frank Herbert's Dune universe.[4] The story of the game is similar to Dune II, and is continued in Emperor: Battle for Dune. The game uses a similar game engine to Westwood's Command & Conquer: Red Alert. Although Dune 2000 was originally intended to be a remake of Dune II, the plotline differs completely and makes a reference to the execution of Mentat Amon of House Ordos and the replacement of the Harkonnen Mentat from Dune II, Radnor, by Hayt De Vries. The story is told with full motion video.

I remember being 6 or 7 and playing an RTS game on my dad's PC. I didn't remember much. I'm always wondering what the game was, all I remember is that the game harvest sand and there's moving quicksand that occassionally drown the harvester. 15 years later, I watched dune 2022, got pretty interested for the book and remembered the game again. A game about harvesting sand... then it just clicks. that RTS game I've been looking was a DUNE game all these times 😂😂❤ it's so funnny!

i used to apply this tactic : 1. Make sure you have secured your base 2. Build up a "breakthrough" troops consisted of bunch of soldiers/light vehicles 3. click build "concrete block" but do not deploy it yet 4. Conduct an attack towards known enemy's base entrance with the breakthrough troops. 5. Order your breakthrough army to get inside enemy's base, unravel enemy's base as much as possible 6. Quickly deploy the concrete block inside enemy's base while your breakthrough troops are slowly decimated 7. Your breakthrough troops might be eventually annihilated, but now you have concrete block inside enemy's base. The enemy won't try to destroy concrete blocks, they will only shoot if you build walls or any other buildings. 8. Sometimes i would build rocket tower and let the enemy busy with it

Ive been watching this and thinking. No concrete anywhere? When i played this as a kid, id put concrete under all structures. Pretty much slab the rock with concrete so i could build anything anywhere on solid rock. I loved this game. It was always challenging to manage an assault and micro manage my harvesters so that dont get eaten by worms

If I recall you can build buildings without concrete underneath but the buildings degrade over time. So it's best to put concrete under them.

In the late 90s I remember going to the store and wanting so many games... there would be a ton of stuff I hadn't even heard of that looked great (like this). Now there isn't a single game I'm looking forward to besides maybe the next GTA or Elder Scrolls or something, which take forever to get made now, and most of those AAA titles are inevitably disappointing these days when they do arrive. The golden age of gaming is truly over. Now it's just all about money like Hollywood. Enjoy your microtransactions or whatever scam the industry is up to today.

i bought an old pc running windows xp for 80$ so i can play all these old rts games Dune is the best by far got it on ebay for 2? in 2004 and have been playing it ever since. if you play multiplayer in practice its endless fun all levels to choose from up to 4 opponents at once. ive just been buying old ass pcs to play this game for 20 years and others but you know...

When I was kid my strategy is to capture enemy base then build square land. Now I owned their base and starts building defense tower and infantry for capturing base. It was hard mode that was best option eliminated enemy.

question , shouldn't you be placing concrete slabs under your buildings specially the power generators other wise they don't work at full capacity?

Kinda. Without concrete constructions just get damage over time. In case of generators, their output depends on their health so you have to constantly repair them to keep at max.

Westwood lost the rights to the Dune franchise so they went on with "Command and Conquer", either that or it was EA whom later decided that they would not want to share dividends with Frank Herbert's heirs.

You might be nostalgic, but back then it was a massive disappointment. StarCraft and AeE already set new standards and selling C&C for the 3th (4th if you count C&C Gold) time just didn't cut it. What is more, this was a remake of the first-ever RTS, which drove the expectations even higher.

And they were wrong. This is a good remake. The soundtrack is fantastic and the gameplay is still solid. I love Starcraft and enjoy AOE but Dune 2000 was pretty special in its own way. Anyway when they decided to make a sequel, Emperor Battle for Dune, they knocked it out the park.

I think I played this after Red Alert and Command & Conqour. I was really into this game then my friend said let's go backwards and play DUNE to see what is like. The movie was so sh!t. I stopped watching it half way LOL
