When i played Dune 2000 20 years ago around the time it was released, i was not that much of a strategy game nerd. Nonetheless i decided to play the Harkonnen campaign in hard. It took me a long while to beat this mission but i did it. Basically i walled off the whole base and let the only opening guarded by 8-12 turrets. It was a slow grind but eventually i grew the base and trained enough units for the attack. Mission 9, i just gave up :p

I just read the mission objectives and I didn't know I could ally them :D But when I tried to play the mission again when capturing the heavy factory, it came out as longer mission time than this, because the mercs died fast. And I wouldn't really want to bother defending them, but thanks for the tip.

Yeah, despite it being a nice prestige, those Mercs arent very useful. You need to protect their base, as both the Ordos, as the Atreides will prio thát base. When they attack, you're wise to assist them as well, if you want them to be of use: Help destroy the two Rocket-turrets to the west of the Ordos Base, so their forces can get past... But when you're to that point, you might as well focus on your own, and eradicate the Ordos with your own army already. ps, mind it: If you push your units over that narrow passage, west of the Ordos base, the Mercs will likely get blocked for a moment and pick the Northern entrance, where they get flanked by incoming Atreides.... Imo the Mercs are rather useless, but hey; Parking some buildings in their base, like a Refinery, does add more ground to cover, speeds up cashflow, and adds an extra point of attack: Adds some options? Adds some fun! Perhaps just for a 'time-out' on building up your own defences on the North of your encampment, the Mercenary-outpost can serve as a diversion, so you dont bear the full brunt of combined Ordos and Atreides forces? Personally, i play a completely different tactic. I like to build out the max in structures. I build my base-defence at the North of that rockslab, just south of the stones i leave 2 tiles opening to my base. protected by 2 L-shapes of Rocket-turrets, 3 horizontal, 1 vertical, backed by 2 siegetanks. repair them reasonably often (especially when you hear they killed a Saboteur!), wall up to both sides, and nothing gets past there. To the west of the base, i only have to put up a zigzag of Rocket-turrets also with 2 siegetanks to cover that part. Atreides Airstrikes are nasty though half a dozen missile-tanks on the 2 clear spots of Windtraps, do offer good protection against that. I did find it 'amusing' to prepare for the destruction of the Ordos Palace, and prep a nice team of Engineers, south of the Atreides Base: Once they declare themselves Neutral, your engineers can walk freely in their base, without being attacked directly(can still get squished by tanktreads though! so does require some manouvring). If you time it a bit, you can capture all the Atreides important buildings, with a bit of luck, even keep their Heavy Factory intact and play a bit with Sonic Tanks. But if you 'just' capture the Atreides Construction Yard, Starport, and Heavy Factory, you cripple the Atreides, whislt adding an Airstrike through capturing their Construction Yard, to your own arsenal(Yes Fremen too as you can also build the Atreides Palace then!). But ye, a bit excessive. If you've already penetrated thát deep into the Ordos' lást base on Arrakis, youre but a push away from winning :)

Because I needed money to build defense, not waste time building engineers. Also if they would attack it, it would be hard to defend.

i tried playing Mission 8 Harkonnen many times bro.. It is really tough. You completed in the HARD level... Thats gr8.!!! Mission 7 Hark.. was also tough.. Thanks for the idea. I now know where the enemy base is. Can do better this time. Is it better to play on laptops or PCs ?.. Not having a mouse is really tough considering the time this game was created (2000) - before advent of laptops. Can you send me some cheats if you have ... please?????

Both aint difficult if you know what to do, in this mission just take away mercenaries at start and tada, left side is now 99% safe, then meanwhile too just quickly make 2 traps with only one set of concrete and then quickly build 3 refineries not on concrete as you really need to save the time also play on slow speed as you have to use the time before first initial DANGEROUS Attack from north, now just get the outpost on Concrete, also Try make a Heavy Factory before the Outpost and then Make 4 Rocket turrets on north in a line and if possible add some siege tanks behind the turrets, then concentrate on make another Factory and Star port to increase the troop numbers , also forget the left side, it's pretty much ignored by Other two bases as only mercenaries attacked that but you already killed them....now make the Turrets wall better by adding 3 more turrets on left north corner in a vertical manner so that no enemies can slip through by north west side, also on the west side add atleast 2 missile turrets as you now might see some Trikes and quads coming there but only 1-2 at a time nothing of a big deal, then strength your force and also maintain spice deposits and get Carryalls and build rest of the things you want and if ran out of space then you have an empty mercenaries base at your disposal, then Just ONLY Attack ORDOS, it is just above your north side of base and North Eastern side of Mercenaries base. Eliminate Ordos by Using Brute force, it is upto you, i Think sending in Devastators from west side of Ordos base to Distract main troops and send rest of the other troops from south east tip of Ordos base and maintain both Strikeforces and meet at the centre and then Empty out the base by Firstly killing The Yard, Factories, Barracks ,Troops and Turrets then kill the rest then send in Trikes all over the map if you haven't eliminated them all even after killing their whole base, to find those pesky Harvesters and kill them to win the game, just Ignore Atriedes, You can spare them to win but if going for score after capturing mercenaries kill the Atriedes then Make a little Military base over there and send in small packs of troops to enemy base to weaken it up

It is a drag. I stayed up till 1 last night and built up a HUGH army of tanks and the Ordos STILL killed me! I had so many, the screen froze when I tried to move them!

on hard difficulty the enemy will not give you time to build 3 fuel buildings at the beginning of the game lol. Call the difficulty medium
