I was highly skeptical about a Dune movie remake. However, this trailer shows huge promise. If you haven't read Frank Herbert's Dune (and the other related novels), do so before watching the movie. This is a movie set in a grand universe with a huge history and depth. No movie can capture it all, so I expect it to jump major parts of the book as the original did. Hopefully it will stay more accurately with the book though. This isn't a Star Wars type movie. It's more of a rich SciFi drama with a few action scenes.

True. Frank Herbert has very specific style of writing - you either love it, or close the book and never return after few pages. I am both sceptical and excited. I love Lynch's Dune from 1984. He managed to tell the story with all the dark atmosphere and thoughts, literally. Also TV miniseries Dune and Children of Dune (2000 / 2003) were good as well , even they were not so dark and perverse - in Herbert's style :) I hope that I will see enough of Frank Herbert's plans in the plans of other plans in this movie. Not just special effects in familiar universe with familiar characters.

Go, Go, Go ... To all those people that read ... !!! It's difficult for some director's to envision, certain concepts -- if they're smart enough to read any of the sci-fi books, ahead of shooting the first scene. A case in point: Ridley Scott in making "Blade Runner", it was so close to my heart because of Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep". Nobody, back in the 80's, understood concepts like; simulated worlds in the Matrix (1977), the holographic universe, simulacra, manipulated time dilation, genetic engineering, cybernetics, and he essentially invented by heavily influencing the psychology and science of altered-thought, thought manipulation, and memory implantation. It's difficult enough to get people to read more than 2 lines of text, as it is anyhow and KZbin has proven this fact.
@rkbkirin59752 жыл бұрын
And they seem to know when to adapt elements of the books rather than blindly following it. Like the blade-combat that requires slow attacks due to shields but would look really silly on the big screen lol And I expect we won't be seeing the rather ridiculous concept of marching troops across a mountain range recently blown open by nukes :)
@Jahadyn2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. In fact, that is about the ONLY thing that gives me hope. I found the David Lynch attempt to be god awful; the Syfy miniseries to be slightly better. It is nearly impossible to portray more than a fraction of the concepts of this series on screen without resorting to lengthy exposition.

I read Dune back in the late '70s and I still have the old ragged paperbacks of Dune Messiah and Children of Dune. Since then I have read all the other Dune books written by Frank Herbert, but not the last two written by his eldest son, Brian along with Kevin Anderson. But, yes, beautifully written I couldn't agree more.

Can't wait for this movie version to come out! I have been a longtime fan of Frank Herbert's Dune series. I first read Dune back in the late '70s and all of Herbert's other books in the Dune series except for the ones written by his son. The 1984 movie was so-so, but the novel is so detailed and deep with nuances, themes and ideas that it was difficult to translate it to the silver screen. We'll see how this version does. So far, the advancements in CGI will obviously be the big hit here..the storyline is to be seen.
