Those shots were achieved using a stereoscopic 3D camera rig. One camera is a normal camera that records the visible light spectrum, the other camera captures only infrared light (these cameras were used for these rest of the exteriors in this scene to visualize the black sun light on Geidi Prime). The cameras are overlaid in a way where they’re effectively shooting the exact same image and then a split screen effect of sorts separates the two images within the same frame. It’s a bit more technical than that, but that’s the gist.

I don’t think it’s a mistake that the officers to the sides of the baron just before he enters the light of the black sun look strikingly like nazi soldiers. Such a great detail in making you realize how fucked up the harkonnen are considering they look like space nazis

I think the Atreides uniforms also share a resemblance to the Nazi-Hugo Boss uniforms with the thick belt by the waist and knee high boots. The Padeshah Imperium is pretty bleak in general, tbh.
