Dung beetle rollers on Green Pastures Farm make our cattle manure disappear! The roller tumbler dung beetles are the largest species of beetle we have in Missouri. They dessicate our manure piles which kills the fly larvae contained in the manure. This eliminates flies that suck the blood out of our livestock. Stop worming your animals and you may start to see the all mighty dung beetle return to your own farm. Watch for fresh dirt piles around your manure pats which is a key indicator they are rolling up your manure into balls and burying it.

I had to buy some dung beetles for OB Farms because for 20 miles in every direction we are surrounded by soybean fields. The few cattle ranches near us are constantly dousing the cows and the pasture with chemicals...

Hello Greg, Just want to remind your viewers that you got to the "no shade" in steps, genetics, culling, and adaptation! Please don't think you can force this on a herd all at once! Please don't just move them to non shade paddocks and leave for 24 hours. My son did that 14 June's ago. He had to bury of thirty + head of beautiful "red" fall calving cows that were grass " fat." This years humidity is similar to that year! Please be cautious! Natural Gramma Hank and Laura Reid

Thanks for the video! It’s great seeing your sister and brother in law again. The first year of having animals we had a lot of those dung beetles, but I haven’t seen one lately. We do have a lot of the smaller dung beetles though. I thought those were the coolest ones around. Do you know how long it takes for dung beetles to hatch?

What do you use for FLY CONTROL on your cattle?

We move the cows 3 times a day, leaving most of the flies behind. We also have 500 tree swallow houses up on our farms. 1 pair of tree swallows eat 8000 flies per day.

I live in croplabd domenated area and have never seen a dung beetle in the wild. How do I encourage them back now that I am transitioning from chemicals?

How do you help your animals for the first couple with flies then before the Dung Beetles come back? The biting flies are terrible on our farm.
