Excellent review! I'm a big fan of 1985 Games, and not only for their products. I was cutting out the Castles and Keeps set and without looking, I cut out a curved staircase around the staircase itself, not the larger rectangle. I realized after that this was one of the very, very few pieces that wasn't exactly mirrored on the back, and I'd just ruined another curved ramp piece. I emailed them and asked if it was possible to buy just those sheets, never expecting anything at all. After all, it was totally my fault. I should have looked before cutting. However, I was stunned and delighted when replacement sheets showed up in the mail within a couple of days and they didn't even charge me for them! That's the kind of customer service which deserves mention and will keep me forever a dedicated fan.

I love Dungeon Craft! I have backed all the terrain Kickstarters. All their terrain is awesome. I doubt I'll use 3D terrain again. Plus 1985games is pretty involved in the community. They seem to make terrain and game aids based on community interest and suggestions.

I had originally ordered the dungeon craft when my son got into D&D, a few years back. He's since pulled me into the hobby, and I was lucky enough to win one of their giveaways. Super cool company!

At home I'm all about the 3D terrain and minis. This kind of stuff is great out at the cottage or RV trips. These and Pathfinder standees or home made paper minis. Neat boxed sets. Not a person fan of the cartoon look, but they will work in a pinch.

It's like, in my brain I KNOW this is the cleverest way of doing it, and is just as good for getting the point across in a game, but for a fraction of the price and taking up a fraction of the space... but I just love real 3D minis and terrain.

I used to feel this way, but I realized the terrain was limiting my stories. I can have way more terrains this way.

I have all the packs and I think they are pretty nice. But one word of advice: Only buy if you have some access to a paper cutter, because if you try to cut them out with scissors it will take forever and your hand will hate you after that...

Forgive me if I am wrong, some of the bigger ones starting at 5:16, are you not supposed to cut them out? The different versions on the other side aren’t mirrored like the rest are. The birds should be facing opposite directions so you don’t cut the head and tail off of the blue one while cutting out the orange one.

You mention perforations, but I have no idea if they can be punched out by hand or if I need a scissors or a hobby knife. I wish you had cut one of the tiles out and put it on a map so that I could get a better idea about how painful it would be to cut out the whole book. Even though this review is very positive, the way you flip through it so quickly gives me the impression that you would never actually use this product. Also, I'm disappointed that you didn't mention how their ankylosaurus takes up a 4x4 tile which is the wrong size which makes me question all the other "monster tokens" included in the set. Being the wrong size makes it much less likely that the tile actually gets used in a game.

I put on some music and sort of zen out while I cut out pieces. I store them in manila folders and ziploc bags in a portable file box. I recently picked up a thin but rigid sheet of clear acrylic to lay over them when they're all laid out and arranged so the players don't have to worry about knocking the smaller pieces around. These are wonderful for poor DMs like me who can't afford a lot of fancy terrain or even a lot of minis.

Well, sigh. Let me be the asshole. The art style is very simplistic and sort of cartoon-y looking. If it works for you then great. I guess I've been spoiled by the Paizo flip mats which look way more "real" than this stuff. Not hating, looks like a great line of products if you like it.

That's hardly being an asshole! These pieces are not for everyone, nothing is. But for a lot of us, especially those with very limited funds and several campaigns running, these are a lifesaver. I haven't seen the Paizo flip mats -- I'll have to check those out. I am accumulating a wonderful collection of maps pieces and mats which can be put out quickly wherever the story takes us. For example, this evening the party might 1) go into the swamp, 2) cross several miles of possibly hostile wilderness to try to find a way around the swamp, 3) try to find a way into that castle on the island in the swamp, or 4) go back into that lost library they discovered in the woods to the east. I have no idea which way they'll go, or if they'll go a completely different direction (the alchemy stone mines to the south, for example, or back to the half-orc village where they have a house), so I can hardly get some elaborate terrain set up ahead of time. I'll choose pieces that will work for whichever way they want to go and have them ready. Then when needed, I'll arrange a couple of the Loke books or put out the Dungeon Craft pieces or open the Immersive Battle Maps book and away we go.
