Why is Laury complaining about walking, he's a giant lizardman and philosopher, he should be advocating for the benefits of walking.

After taking some time to sit on this and collect my thoughts, I have to say I am not a fan of how Paul's mom is portrayed, with her relationship to Paul and her enslavement. First, how she feels about the benefits of being a slave? That should be on Pretty Kitty. Paul's dad living the high life, an argument from him about going back to society after that, that makes sense. Paul's Mom has been doing hard labor for 10 years. She talks about having food and shelter and keeping watch over the prisoners, but Laury, someone who tried to assassinate the Queen, gets the exact same bare minimum to stay alive, (and yeah as a PC he's not going to get punished and mistreated, but still) and keeping watch: she's not an overseer, she's the leader of a chain gang, doing the exact same work with no benefits. She says all she she wants is a little freedom, but after 20 years she still hasn't got it, there's no reason for her to believe that will change. Now, could she have anxiety or fear of leaving her current life behind and fear of being recaptured, blamed and punished? Could she put on a brave face in front of Laury but she's just emotionally defeated and sees no hope and sees no point in wishing for it? Yes. But no one is going native from 10 years of hard labor. Her basically saying "I would rather break rocks until the day I die or until my back gives out, whichever comes first, then find my son and help him with his assumed crippling drug addiction" is mean-spirited, and depressingly cynical, I get the running gag from the last arc of Paul not having the best relationship with his mom, but I don't think this is a good characterization.
