Also kabru is kinda sus with how he looks at Laios sometimes and doesn’t understand why he cares so much abt him teehee. More interesting than kabruxmithrun but that’s a decent one too.

I know it’s an old comment but if you’re actually interested, there aren’t many solid studies determining the psychological effects of cannibalism. Unfortunately most cases of cannibalism are during events that are *already* traumatizing! (The Uruguayan rugby team, The Donner Party, The Essex) So the psychological effects of the cannibalism alone is kind of swayed more by the traumatic event, or guilt of consuming someone you’re close with seemingly than the cannibalism alone. It’s more so guilt I’d say because when asked, the survivors on the Uruguayan rugby team considered their cannibalism as something that had to be done. There doesn’t seem to be much evidence that it has its own effect, probably due to the lack of studies (for understandable reasons.) Although, Arwin Meiwes is an interesting place to start if you wanna learn about the point of view of more murderous cannibals, as is Issei Sagawa. Fair warning, the cases are gruesome and specifically Issei is a real piece of garbage! However! There can be neurological effects to cannibalism! If someone specifically eats the brain, they run the risk of developing a fatal neurodegenerative disorder called Kuru! It’s caused by the transmission of prions that folded abnormally inside of the brains people would eat! It was sadly found in the Fore people of Papua New Guinea who had the ritualistic practice of funerary endocannibalism, meaning that when a loved one died they’d be cooked and eaten in order to free the deceased persons spirits. Kuru isn’t really common of a disease anymore because they stopped doing that when they realized what was causing Kuru. Another evidence that cannibalism doesn’t really seem to cause mental effects after the fact is that cannibalism used to be much less taboo! For example, it was very common in places all around the world to consume their enemies flesh in victory! And in Europe, things like human bones, blood, and fat were used in various medicines! Unfortunately it was a European practice to grind up Egyptian mummies and consume it in powder form to cure head ailments! There are several mental illnesses/disorders that can cause impulses for cannibalism as well! For example, Autohemophagia is a mental disorder that causes one to have a seemingly unquenchable thirst for blood! Although typically it’s more for sexual satisfaction as opposed to hunger/thirst. Autocannibalism was a disorder that causes the desire to consume *yourself* as opposed to another person (although it’s no longer classified in the DSM-5 as a disorder anymore.) There’s even something called “Wendigo Psychosis” which is a culture-bound syndrome (a pattern of mental illness specific to certain regions and cultures) that causes someone to think they’re being possessed by a wendigo and it can manifest with a severe compulsive hunger for human flesh, and in some cases actual cannibalism!
