This was JUST what I needed! I've wanted to do the dungeon craft professor's "ultimate dungeon terrain" for a while, but I am foamless here and wanted a cardboard version! I went with frankies version, so I could do a double sided circle with a classic dungeon on one side, and a forest/grassland side on the other.

These look phenomenal!! I have a set of my own tiles that I crafted a while ago using printouts from Warlock's Homebrew. I initially glued the printouts to sets of index cards I glued together to make them thicker like I do with my paper minis but they felt flimsy and light. Then I got the brilliant idea to glue the already existing tiles down to some thicker corrugated box cardboard I filched from work. Hey, we're recycling/throwing it out anyway so why not? Anyway, after the tiles dried I carefully cut them out (I emphasize careful because unless you have a razor sharp box cutter/scissors this part could take a while) and numbered them so if I really liked a layout or map I could build it again and again in the future. After that I painted the sides black with some acrylic to hide the corrugated pattern on the sides but something was still missing. My tiles looked too neat and perfect so I roughed them up with a crumpled ball of foil and dry-brushed some more black paint on top and wiped away any excess paint to give them a weathered look. Though I'm not actively working on anything prop/terrain wise I may give this a whirl to build some "ultimate dungeon terrain" or an all purpose board like I've been wanting to do for a while.

Awesome. Doing the classic basic craft and still feels new and inspirational. For texturing the cardboard floor tiles i am wondering if it would make sense to apply a technique normally used for foam bricks. Put the cut tiles before glueing to the cardboard in a tin together with small stones and shake vigorously. Have to try out. Damn you Lukas, now i have to craft. Again.... 😎
@BardsCraft
@BardsCraft 4 жыл бұрын
I don't believe the tin can with stones technique would work with cardstock, but you can always give it a try. The cardstock needs more pressure to get textures, perhaps you have to shake extra vigorously :D
@Carpetcleanerman
@Carpetcleanerman 4 жыл бұрын
@@BardsCraft you are absolutely right. Tried but didnt work. However, you might take a proper stone and texture cardboard before even cutting cardboard into strips. Just tried using sheets of cardboard from food packaging before cutting into 25mm x 25mm scares. That seems to work. With Cardboard that has sort of softish back I am just trying to brush cardboard with wet brush to soften cardboard and then structuring. That seems to work just as fine.

For anyone who actually makes these add dowels into the cardboard sides so you can stick them into larger pieces. Just add a little bit of glue to the dowel and slide it in, try not to shove it cuz after the glue holds you can slide them into bigger pieces and they won't move apart as much!
