Congrats to Pluto, who's very successfully playing someone with low charisma. Every hesitation you make when you talk, like you're awkward, fits your stats, but makes it fun and charming in its own way. Very good roleplaying !

Yeah I've been finding myself looking foward to this episode a lot, excited to see what happens in Drakkenheim. Really like this setting, makes me want to use it in a campaign. Also love these players, one of the first D&D streams that the players seem to know to play D&D well... haven't facepalmed once watching combat like I usually do with other campaigns. Also should turn on subs on twitch ( like take my money already damnit)

No dogs here! Hyenas are not members of the dog or cat families. Instead, they are so unique that they have a family all their own, Hyaenidae. There are four members of the Hyaenidae family: the striped hyena, the “giggly” spotted hyena, the brown hyena, and the aardwolf (it's a hyena, not a wolf).

At 1:49:55 the "Three Crows" encounter Rorch and his bandits. Kelly backs up, spends two sorcery points to cast scorching ray at "gorgugorga" or Rorch, fires scorching ray a second time, fires scorching ray a third time, then firebolts the red bandanna guy. I'm new and working through the mechanics. How can he have movement and cast four spells? Probably obvious to everyone, but i'm missing it somehow. (Don't get me wrong, I definitely want this for my shadow sorcerer, but i just want to understand the "How" of it all.)
@s.hodapp9622
@s.hodapp9622 4 жыл бұрын
You may have found out the answer by now, but just in case: Scorching Ray is one spell that fires three rays, and you have to make a separate attack for each one. As for the Sorcery points, he used them to cast Scorching Ray as a bonus action instead of an action, which allowed him to cast a cantrip (Fire Bolt) as an action. So he really only cast two spells.
@josephrichardson69
@josephrichardson69 4 жыл бұрын
I did!!!!! But thank you for the response. I was scratching my head and went back to look at scorching ray.... I think it was a good thing not getting an answer back initially because it forced me to flip pages and learn more about game mechanics, bonus actions etc. “Reading is Fundamental”. Again, thank you for taking the time to educate.

Amazing show! Just getting into this and am binging it! The GM has an amazing setting and does a great job bringing in good descriptions and spooky themes. I like the characters too but one minor tweek I'd like to see is having the players take the situations a bit more seriously. The near constant cracking jokes and puns takes away from the story and atmosphere the GM is trying to set. I don't want it to be completely humorless but these characters are in dark situations that are often life threatening and I'd like to see that atmosphere come more out in their role playing.

Still loving everything about the show! Ok, here's some pointless "Reality vs RPG" gold piece maths: 20 pound bag of gold x 13 troy ounces of gold per pound x 20 coins per ounce (smallest gold coin ever minted in USA, smaller than a dime, and that's still $60 each in modern cash) = 5200 gold pieces, and $312,000 in total. For any GM who wants a huge laugh, check out what things supposedly cost in your environment using those real values. (If your gold pieces are more like penny-sized, figure at $250 per gold coin for 1/5th ounce.)

@@thoughtgaming492 Yes, and we could go back and forth. If gold was so common as it seems in some game settings, it wouldn't particularly be considered treasure, any more than Fort Knox is stocked with bars of copper. The "specie" treasure coins, then, would be titanium or something else sturdy or useful. In ancient central america where gold was more locally common, they used cocoa beans. Yes, their money did grow on trees :) We could also argue which kind of recent neutron star mergers/hypernovas in nearby space rained down so many heavy metals onto that planet's crust, long after the element migration period in its formation, and is there then some residual freaky cosmic high-band energy that makes magic work, or does it just give everyone tumors? Drakkenheim seems to be finding out firsthand. We could spend all day coming up with excuses, but the simple truth is that most games aren't rigorous in the first place, then they evolve randomly or even away from sensible principles because of storyline inflation. I was there. I watched it happen. D&D has never been rigorous about its combat system, physics, or economic principles, because that isn't its purpose or goal, and the discrepancies are worth a joke now and then. I brought up the gold thing because when I started running my own world, the wacky irrational values and maneuver/combat mechanics made my NatGeo & martial brain feel all twisty, so I translate everything I can into sensible measures. A healing potion that takes a couple days to make and costs more than a house just didn't work for me, not just for the monetary inflation, but because it's comparatively irrational even within the setting. So it says I need 30g worth of reagents to cast a spell... is that retail, wholesale, tax-included, or can I make them myself? The game doesn't know. It's just a vaguely medieval cobbled-together set of charts for people who would rather skip to the big drama finale, and not think about the piddly scientific details. For my own part, I can't help it.

@@animistchannel2983 I believe the PHB describes labor's wages around a silver for half a day. A gold piece being a week's wages for skilled ish labor probably resets the calculation, and I'm curious how the calculation shifts when you calculate off gold standard dollars. I know USD have effectively gone 10x over about 80 years, since gas used to be 25c and it's now $2.50 per gallon.

I think each GM just has to make their own peace with it. Even on earth, the value of these things has fluctuated wildly depending on circumstances and location. In the ancient mediterranean, gold was worth about 10-15 times silver traditionally. In modern times with a lot of big silver strikes -- and marriage customs in India sucking up so much gold -- it's now at least 80x. In some gold-rush mining camps, one egg could cost a dollar's worth of gold (equivalent to $40 today) because no one wanted to stop prospecting to get their own food. Prior to the 19th century, most North American natives didn't think gold was worth even digging up (and in the south it was just used for artwork and ceremony). The Sioux called it "the yellow dirt that makes the white-man crazy." Likewise, alchemy/chemical tech can do crazy things to gem & crystal prices. Today, you could spend a couple week's income to buy enough man-made jewels to rival the collection of a medieval king. In some regions, for a day's pay you can wholesale huge beds of geode-core amethysts to be the envy of ancient queens. You can get quartz, the "blank slate battery" of crystal magic, by the truckload. With all this luxury variability, the better indicator of economy is common goods like beer, cheese, preserved meats, bulk cloth, and tool metals like bronze and iron. They tell you more about the real economy and affluence of an area. Beer is cheap on the farm, more pricy in the city, in a predictable way, almost a set scale. You could rate the stability of your cities by the infrastructure they have to import such basics. In the end, I made a bronze piece a dollar or two, a silver 10-20, a gold piece a couple hundred, and tried to forget that people make coins of widely varying sizes on top of that. Even for me, there was a limit to how far down the rabbit hole it was worth going to figure out a week's groceries or a minor magic item. Some players are more into that kind of thing, some less, and that ends up being the deciding factor. I guess my advice would be to think in terms of the money you actually know and the kind and length of labor it would take to actually make things in your world; then translate that into equivalent game coin value, and set prices accordingly. If a +1 magic high steel sword would take a certain time to make, then let it be that time at that craftsman's rate to buy it. On earth today, the very best production swords cost from 2-12 ounces of gold to buy. In game terms, that's bloody nothing! How do you make up that difference in other "magic"? That's your call :)
