Thank you for this video. It wasn't very hard to do but this was the first oil change I've done with that style of filter under the hood. I was also able to Grab exactly what size sockets I needed before I started.

Good video. I have a '15 Cherokee trailhawk as well. The only thing I do different is loosen the oil filter housing, but don't remove it until I finish draining the oil from the drain pan. This allows the majority of the oil to drip off the filter element. A little less messy when you remove it later. I have a heckuva time freeing that filter from the housing. Yank, pull, grunt, and it finally comes free.

Best thing you showed was the torque specs on both the oil filter housing and the drain plug EXCELLENT job thank you !

Easier to remove the o-ring after removing the old filter. I've been doing oil changes for decades, but I thought I'd check to make sure my 2020 Latitude didn't have any surprises that weren't going to show up until too late. Good video and thanks for the socket sizes.
@HariSeldon9133 жыл бұрын
Oil change done. There actually was a surprise in that the 2020 no longer has that cutout, but instead has a flap underneath the drain plug. The flap is clearly marked in large letters, but if you've got a 2020 then know you will also need a 10mm socket to open the flap.

This is an older video but it is giving me information to replace the engine splash pan with the drain plug cut out. Long story how trusted mechanic forgot to tighten the splash guard bolts/screws and gooched the splash guard. I thought the splash pan had a cover that has to be removed to get to the drain plug. Or I am making this up in my mind. I want to order the splash guard and install it myself. Then charge the shop for the part and my trouble; they are telling my that part is back-ordered until April. I've always changed the oil in our Cherokee 3.2L and intend to do so going forward. Thanks again.
@ElectricDanielBoone4 жыл бұрын
I found that if after I unscrew the filter cap and pull the filter element up an inch or so, the oil in the filter element will drain into the pan. It seems that o-ring on the bottom of the filter element seals the drain passage down to the oil pan. If you loosen the filter element this way before draining the oil pan the filter housing and filter element have more time to drain. I discovered this when I drained the pan first, then when I pulled the filter I could hear a lot more oil draining out of the oil pan drain hole and into my used oil container.

I've done plenty of oil changes. Decided to help someone out and found your video. I too have run into dealers or oil change places that tighten the plugs WAY too tight. The 13mm drain plug we could not get it off. In our attempt I somewhat rounded the plug. So annoying. The plug metal is too soft. Mopar should have made the bolt larger in my opinion. I see other folks in the forum complaining about the same problem.

The oil life system can also be reset as follows: Turn the ignition to ON position without starting the engine. fully depress the GAS PEDAL slowly three times within 10 seconds This is the method for a large number of cars sold in the USA.
@kimojon96654 жыл бұрын
@@richardmellem3583 You are correct, and on this particular Jeep Cherokee (2017) you go to the "oil life" portion of the engine information menu working off the steering wheel buttons. Once you get there you do the gas pedal to the floor three times and then push and hold the "OK" button on the steering wheel. That resets the oil back to 100%.

@fp5355 жыл бұрын
One large thing for all to watch out for! The oil filter is something that I have never seen and is an engineering failure. If you are using a ratchet, make sure you do not tighten too much as you can crack the whole housing and cause you to curl in a ball and cry as your cheap oil change now cost $500 to replace at an autoshop. When you switch the filter, make sure that O ring is where he has it in the video. Do not put it all the way down the top. This will cause oil to leak!! When you do screw it on, you still have to make sure the top is screwed all the way shut. While trying not to crack it, it sometimes appears to be tight but you need to make sure the top is flush with the sides and there are not a space. Why they put a plastic oil filter housing on top of the engine instead of a regular oil filter like every other car in America....Who knows. Hope my mistakes were helpful to you.

I have the same exact vehicle as you list, 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with the same engine. My factory oil plug needs a 17 mm socket. Has your oil plug been changed?
