They're in my homebrew setting, but the only clan of any relevance on the continent the game takes place on are the "Shadowmane". A group of them that had a generations-long war with the orcs and were forced to lose their ancestral homeland. They were on the verge of extinction, and swallowed their pride - asking for help from a neighboring human kingdom, who agreed, with three rules; - Leonin must serve in the kingdom's military or city watch for at least six years of their lives. They are allowed to retain their ancestral fighting styles or magic if they wish. - The Shademane clan's greatest shaman is to act as one of the king's viziers for their entire life, as will their greatest shaman after them, and their greatest shaman after them, in Infinium. - When the Shademane's lands are retaken, the human kingdom is to remain a valued ally and welcome guest. The first two stipulations are to be abolished at that time in good faith. The leonin agreed, and they're in their second generation as part of the human kingdom, who are starting to realized they got a really good deal, as the lionmen of the newest generation have begun to think of the human kingdom as their 'clan', becoming extremely loyal/fanatic about it.

While Leonin are relatively new, they play well into my homebrew species, the Gnollvarg. Gnollvarg are a variant of the classic Gnoll, hailing from the bitter cold tundras of the north, and forsaking their chaotic evil roots, for Chaotic Good/Neutral Good alignments. The Leogard, a race of lion men, were Lawful Good (read: Lawful Stupid) who devoted themselves to wiping out ALL Gnoll Kind. Even the Gnollvarg who were good hearted, loyal, and relatively peaceful, outside of taking up crusades to fight against unjust dictatorships. The Leonin are a perfect fit to take this role, and i will be working to bring them into future campaigns. As a side note: Gnollvarg have a more wolf/bear like appearance, usually in shades of white, or light gray, and their racial culture is based heavily on a mix of Tolkien Dwarves, and the general mindset of the Knights Templar. they would go on crusades if they heard of genocide, authoritarianism, or other abuses of power. While Good, they would not hesitate to kill a child, if it meant saving a dozen more. the Leogard as i created them, were lawfully stupid. justice did not matter, in the face of the law.

Kitties!! My first character I am about to play is a Leonin barbarian. She was found as a baby as the sole survivor of a crashed spelljammer on Toril and raised by a tribe of tabaxi. As far as anyone knows (including her) she's just an extra big tabaxi that isn't very bright and prefers to just smash and slash instead of focusing on rouge or monkish skills like the others. Like many barbarians, intelligence is her dump stat so I plan to make her the the classic dumb ditsy girl but with enough strength to pound the average person into mush. She's going to be very curious and playful like a cat would be, and although good in alignment and actions she loves nothing more than charging into combat with a greataxe. Instead of a rage, I think she's going to have more of a mania; getting googly eyes and laughing as she thoroughly enjoys herself like a cat stuck in a cage full of parakeets.

They like confrontation, she doesn't like having too many eyes on her and she is very annoying when it comes to answering questions. Kudos to you for an entertaining D&D/MTG character race lore!! I am curious as to what level and class that Planeswalkers become when converted into D&D stats. I'm sure they have an innate power of planar travel or gate to travel among the D&D multi-verse with ease. Like Emperor Palpatine says in SW: The Revenge of the Sith: "POWER! ABSOLUTE POWER!!"
@DallasHunterH3 жыл бұрын
There is a ranger subclass you can take at level 3 titled Horizon Walker, it’s been a while since I’ve looked through GGR but I’m pretty sure planes walkers are detailed in there
@AJPickett3 жыл бұрын
Depends on which era of MtG history we are talking about of course, the original Planeswalkers are stupendously powerful, the latest batch, not much better than Sorcerers with wizard class levels :)

honestly I kinda hate the magic the gathering stuff in Dnd. Why would the adventures need to save the world If their are 20th level lawful good angels around.
@AJPickett3 жыл бұрын
I respect your opinion, though it seems to be in a minority here in my little slice of the internet. But hey, that's cool, D&D is a buffet, not a set menu.
@dans90973 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't know which you're referring to, because there are CR 21 Solars in 5e, so reasonably capable of single-handedly fighting a party at their level cap. In MtG, Nicol Bolas has literally conquered entire Planes, enslaved and killed gods, and created an army of intelligent but perfectly obedient undead super-soldiers, including the corpses of some of said gods. Closer in comparison to Tiamat than an ancient dragon.

@@dans9097 mtg has power creep that becomes a problem when appled to an rpg. In 5e the angels are rare and in another realm doing stuff. While in ravica the leader of one of the factions is an lawful good cr20 angel. I just don't like mtg as an rpg, I would have liked to see classic Dnd settings from Past editions but instead we get farly generic high fantasy.
@erispapps99293 жыл бұрын
Also how are you supposed to translate creature with death touch or indestructible into Dnd? In mtg you can casually banish a creature from existence. Kinda hard to adapt that into a Dnd game.
@dans90973 жыл бұрын
@@erispapps9929 Aren't there a few spells to do the same? Any number inflict enough damage on average to kill a dozen Commoners, some disintegrating the body at the very least as they do so. Beyond that, there are angels at work even in the strangest places in D&D. Curse of Strahd has a Deva corrupted whilst in the Dark Domains. Angels are exactly as common as necessary in most D&D games, and for a very high level party (who might be called to a world-saving event) they might be interacting with them often. Realistically, four or five level-capped heroes are a match for a Solar, a "near godlike being" according to the DMG. The angels can hold their own, they are the reason the world hasn't fallen between adventurers, perhaps. But sometimes, they need a mortal agent to fill the gaps, distract their foes, or complete a prophecy. The last is most important - The Celestial (if aligned to Law) may be bound to some terms that prevent it from accomplishing a goal or stopping an evil. That angel can, in classic devilish style, find free agents and still be in accord with all laws, restrictions, oaths, treaties, and truces - Devils had to get their love of contracts somewhere, after all. Edit* Hiring out mercenaries, even murderhobos, may be a viable tactic for a high-level angel; they may well be the patron of Celestial Pact Warlocks because they're working outside the hierarchy.

How do you think leonines would interact with wemic and dragon born?
@AJPickett3 жыл бұрын
Reasonably well, though they would be disturbed by the Wemic's drinking habits. They would thoroughly enjoy fighting with Dragonborn (as a sport).
@tahlialysse3 жыл бұрын
Not to mention that culturally - at least depending on the source for the dragonborn in question - both leonin and dragonborn tend towards order, rules, and strong communal connection. This would make their larger cultures very compatible and mean that characters of both races may likely value many of the same things.

@AJPickett3 жыл бұрын
Mortals prayed and manifested the gods, those gods kicked the Leonal's asses... hence, they retreated from the world and it's gods and have no trust of the celestials in general, due to the evil they did under their orders.

@@AJPickett Ok, ok now I get it. So I guess my last question is, do they practices the worship of their ancestors as their main stream religion? Like from way back way before they served the Archons or are they non religios as a whole?
@AJPickett3 жыл бұрын
@@nicolaezenoaga9756 They are not very religious as a whole, culturally, individuals (and doubly so for player characters) may be just as religious as anyone else, but unlike say, the Dwarves, they don't believe they were created by any god, they understand their place in the natural world and deeply regret ever losing sight of that. Of course, even among the Theros Leonin, there is a lot of variation among the cultures of each group of related prides.
