I can see pairing an advanced metalmaster with an iron golem. It would move the golem right into melee like a chess piece, eliminating the slow reaction time of the construct. Then the sword slug sets up its aura of flying metal debris to hedge in the party and force them to engage the golem while it lines up its mustard gas breath attack.

Here's some fun ecology: they evolved the ferromancy abilities in order to hunt ironshell snails. There actually are snails in deep geothermal vents that have iron incorporated into their shell and their flesh, you could make a larger version of them by simply reskinning the flail snails shell as iron instead of the usual pearl like appearance and make them monstrosities not elementals. To the metal master anything with flesh covered in metal is the same as its natural prey its not trying to be a jerk lol

Hmmm I was planning a campaign on an uninhabited island where there is almost as much gold as rocks and a big legendary one of these could be a really cool fight. Maybe give it a shield like reaction as it drags a piece of metal into the way to act as a shield, some general stat buffs make it twice as big and give it some cool legendary and lair actions and legendary resistances and it could give a pretty strong adventuring party a good challenge

1.) If its magnetic, does it have any effect on things like lighting? 2.) Can they manipulate rust and/or are smart enough to manipulate rust monsters? 3.) Do they know other things about the metal, like type, size/shape/density, temperature, etc? 4.) So, like a parrot: smart and can mimic sounds, but not smart enough to have a conversation with? 5.) Will they carry items like weapons or anvils around as useful weapons/tools? Or stay near treasure or last known locations of friends as bait? Maybe even live near a volcanic lava tube or old dwarven forge and use it to heat up, or even melt metal (assuming they can still manipulate it then). 6.) Do your think they are a mad wizard creation? P.s. What times do you have live-streams these days?

1.) I Don't know, my guess is no. 2.) Yes, and they tend to kill rust monsters on sight. 3.) Yes. 4.) Correct, they may even use the wrong sound at the wrong time, raising suspicion. 5.) They have no interest in tools, a sharp bit of metal is no different from a magic sword to them. They also have no interest in monetary value. 6.) I think they are creatures originally native to the Inner elemental planes of existence.
