I have only ever played one session of D&D (group ended up not being able to schedule regularly) two of us including myself were pixies... the other players thought we were cute... until they all started failing spectacularly in combat against the orc guards of the prison we were starting in.... Use pixies however... we kept rolling wonderfully and gouging out the eyes (I had some ability to turn my fingers into claws and decided this would be an effective strategy) yea the other players were happy we were doing well but extremely distressed they were failing while a pair of pixies took out orc after orc.

The last time I was in a D&D game, we had a Barbarian and an Illusionist in the same party and they fought like cats and dogs. At one point the Illusionist befriended a group of pixies and for the rest of the party's time in their woods they would shoot the Barbarian with their 'lose 5 minutes of memory' darts every time he yelled at said Illusionist. Which was quite often. We spent close to 3 RL months in those woods.

So I was in a campaign where the party ran into a group of pixies (well there territory) and started to bed down for the night. The next morning the wizard (my half elf) and the fighter (a female human) woke up with our long hair branded together. The druid (a dwarf) and the cleric (also a dwarf) where clean shaven and bold. Best random encounter we ever had.

Escalla from the Paul Kidd books explained Pixies as being an offshoot of fairies, just less powerful and intelligent (although I think that was mainly a jab at other Fey folk). I always thought of them as slightly larger atomies, which are the small fey folk I think of when pixies are mentioned. The hierarchy of fey folk must be a bit confusing to most humanoids as the chaotic nature of Pixies seems to have little untamed for most societies (save gnome/halfling settlements).

In many of my campaigns, when I have a player whose personality is similar to a Pixie's, I go right to showing them the player character information on playing a Pixie. In high-magic campaigns, having a Pixie in your party just makes sense.

All of the Zelda video games, if Link doesn't have a pixie guide, then he can just catch them for last ditch back up healing. Campaign rule, if PC has a sizable leather bag with honeycombs within them, a pixie will just move into the bag to help themselves out. As long as you have honey, you have a healing pixie. If you have a healing potion made from giant queen bee honey, well .. say goodbye to that costly few hundred gp healing potion. Its the pixies now. " hic-up."

I created it and ran it with my Zelda Super Nintendo gaming group friends when one said "I wish D&D was like this". We played it for a couple years before that group fell apart. Well, that was at least 4 moves ago, so it might have been lost in one of those moves. It was one notebook.

@@That80sGuy1972 My first game shop during the turn of the early 2000's when I was just 21yo and still only had AD&D .. N64 Zelda Orcina of Time magazine guide map walk through was my shop's .. Main .. campaign game map book. Shop own was cool at letting us bring the N64 into the shop to play. Could find print on demand for that gaming magazine. N64 Castlevaina without dying or pulling off all the trick stop correctly took 6 to 7hr to play strait through. We played a level of the video game then ran it as AD&D then later with 3rdE. It took a week to table top that game with a group of eight players. If you count the spawning enemies compare to AD&D regular PC class or " Create your own playing class character, " One Player could not make it through the game alone. It was brutal. Die and get Teleported back to your last save point. If the monsters didn't kill you, it was failing the Jump checks and drowning that got you. Sorry you landed in Poison/Disease water and the lizardmen drown you, restart.

Encounter concept: A Hag captures 20 or so pixies, just enough for a small community? Said Hag takes these pixie to her swamp/forest lair where she frees them while casting barriers around her territory, entrapping them. Would the Hags dark fey taint twist these pixie over time, turning them into a malicious security force??

Knowing pixies, they are extremely hard to keep entrapped like that, but, yeah its a very short fuse before you set off an explosion of evil from them... a very short fuse.

Pixie mortality, fearlessness in warfare .. a.) Pixies have a set lifespan and then are reincarnated back into a pixie, hopefully. Some wizards/ sorcerers are know to give themselves pixie wings as soon they learn Alter Self. b.) Pixies are immortal in the sense if they are .. killed .. in combat they may leave a corpus behind looking like a giant dragonfly, grass hopper or a frog and reform back in their lair. If their lair is destroyed they are reborn out of the ether at the start of their align season. c.) As a once per day action they can teleport back to their lair and reform a fortnight later after Healing a creature for 5d8hp. " think of the fairies from Legend of Zelda." d.) Pixies reflect the natural/ unnatural environment their lairs are in. So if a dragon or hag corrupts the forest, swamp, desert etc. than the pixies grow malicious in their pranks. e.) If you ever .. kill .. a pixies, they will come back to haunt you till they grow bored. f.) If a PC carries .. honey .. in a given pouch that the pixie can fit in, the pixie will hang out till all the honey is gone. g.) As for pixie lairs, a comfortable bag that can carry a lot of nit'nacks or a bird cage will hold a traveling fairy's lair. They will appear as small song birds to hide in plain sight. A contract is a contract, so a brawly grim face war veteran that looks like the last person you want to fight could be seen carrying a pole with a bird cage hanging from it holding a pixie lair. Such as an orc that is carrying a bird cage holding a yellow flinch song bird which happens to be a murder pixie from a hag's peat bog that is found of watching creatures drown. h.) Suicide games or gabbling their wings is nothing to them since they will reform in a fortnight back in their lairs. As for their little treasure hoards in their lairs, it is a high crime to mess with them and an act of war. They will sleep deprive their enemy till they lose enough wisdom to go mad.

I have a reocuring party NPC who is a goth pixie caller Orchidra. She swears like a sailor and can be easily bribed or destracted by flowers she can use to make her own dresses. Every time I have used her she always becomes the parties favorite character. Oh and if you call her a fairy she will unleash a flurry of insults at you.

I play as a Bard with high charisma and seduction perk once. And my party was going to face of a heavy Pixie Group. I Approach the main leader Pixie and rolled a d19. Now the DM inform me that the Pixie have fell in love and make a nest on the back of my head in my neck/clothes and that I have now -2 penalization of charisma because the pixie will get jealous of everyone that I talk to. Help. I now have a Pixie attached to me!

I like to think that the lore about fey primordials remembering reality being differently arranged is kind of a meta-game wink and nod to us oldies who prefer elements of older D&D editions. I personally just can't get used to the Feywild and Shadowfell. I'm still stuck with 2nd edition Great Wheel cosmology.

Ironically, it is back to being the wheel, the shadowfell is just the demiplane of shadow, and the Feywild is the celestials mystic forest zones (which includes a few of the forested layers of various non-lawful good planes), so, its the same, but different. :)

1.) Would you rule that they have a place separate from the faywild or just their own regions? 2.) Are they immune to things like dragonfear or a fear spell? 3.) Are they willing to sell/trade/gift their pixie dust? Can a non-pixie use the weapon effects? 4.) I thought that the dream realm was in the ethereal plane, is it connected to both of them? 5.) Dose the shadowfel have the same connection to the lower-plane? 6.) Can you be affected directly by the weird logic of the feywild, or the said daydreams of a deity? 7.) Are eladrin able to understand this like the native species, or just enough to get by on the plane?

Almost replied the typical " of course, this is D&D, make it your game." I say most likely not. That not a never ever, though. Isolated, natural homes are what they live in, so that literally contradicts a component what makes a pixie - be a pixie. Unusual & rare case of wanting to live in a metro area (but probaby in the least traveled part of the city park, a nearby nature reserve/preserve, in the zoo etc) possibly. Or are you meaning a highly populated fey civilization? I wouldn'tbe able to name them, but this is just an idea: A variant faerie could be completely cool with living in towers as if they were just metal and rock trees. A place similar to Ravnica comes to mind. By the description of unseelie vs seelie: my opinion is that a city-dweller would be unseelie. Seelie means silly. Unseelie just means not silly or serious/stoic. You could take that and run with it.

What types of fey actually compose the fey courts? Does it ever say? Or just up to the DM? I could see Le Shay's being in the court, but at the same time, that might be too anchoring for them. How do you run it?

I've never had players deal directly with the fey court before, they only ever meet minor archfey and even then, they are usually WAY out of the player characters comfort zone.

lol, ALL OF THEM! ! ! In 4E when the Fae Courts of the Feywild became a big deal , they were mainly composed of a type of greater Eladrin call Eladrin Nobles I think. They were more like greater demons and devils than a typical fae race and likewise the mose powerful were unique individuals like demon princes and archdukes.

I was about to say Grig, because you mentioned insect... yes the Atomie is one of the smallest, though they can stand 12 inches tall so, the sprites, although very small, are much larger than tinkerbell. Personally, I ignore that and halve the size of the sprites as they are listed, at least.

Please don't forget the spell Enlarge/ Reduce along with Alter Self over all can change the mass of a given creature/ object by 50%. Then you have the Polymorph spell where you could really change the size of the target.

I have been in a game where a PC walked up to a Balor and lite their smoke with the demon's body flames. It is amazing what you can get away with when you have the Will save to pass Fear checks.

I had a funny idea when playing as a pixie go around the pub drugging evryones beer for shits and giggles and maybe have a mini bag of holding full of pixie dust just to dip arrows (toothpicks) into it I want to play as a pixie now I would obviously want a mini bag of holding specifically to carry a humans worth of pixi dust and that brings up the question if you had more than a pinch of pixie dust could you theoretically cast higher level spells
