Fuck me I love that song. . . Also, I have this visual in my head of their warcry/chant being a really bassy "TUUM!". . . So I just envision them in a warband, stamping the base of their spears in unison, chanting their name followed by warcry in beat of the 'viking-clap-esque' rhythm. . . "Scro-TUM! Scro-TUM! Scro-TUM!"

When he says anime, a lot of the unhuman war stuff is literally drawn from anime, like the Bionoids which are very closely modeled after The Guyver. It's interesting that in the novelisation it revealed that after creating them, the elves didn't treat the suvivors that well because they had made them as weapons and didn't like being reminded that they were still people under the transforming chitinous armor

It’s a lack of knowledge of world mythology by the game designers. Two of my neutral and advanced goblinoids: The Coblynau (from Welsh) are miners, they’re re the best miners. They can fit into holes that gnomes would fear and come back out again with gems or ore. They aren’t cowardly, they’re shy. They avoid other races at all cost. When coblynau villages are discovered, miners will leave tools and food in the tunnels and when they come back, there will be piles of ore or gems where the food was. The Metsan Vaki (people of the forest, Finnish) are forest goblins. Ancient allies of the wild, wood, green or sylvan elves. They are wild and ferocious hunters, living quietly and far from the eyes of others. Their skin is usually green, mottled with brown freckles, their eyes are almost universally a deep emerald green and they have hair, thick and luxurious. They breed much slower, taking nearly two full decades to achieve adulthood, but from thousands of years of friendly relations with the remaining sylvan elves, the average metsan vaki can live for multiple centuries. They ally themselves to the treant, unicorn, the sylvan elves and most fey, quite easily.

The Halfling-Precursor Hypothesis: By Icari Rell, Hedge-wizard. Position: Halflings (or some earlier form thereof,) are the ancient precursor race (who’s likely origins are interplanar invaders from the far realm,) which either developed into, or provided a template for, virtually all other humanoid life in the prime-material plane. Evidence: 1-No god takes credit for the creation of halflings, (Or humans for that matter,) and no-one knows where they originated from, only scant references in halfling oral tradition remain of reference to “The bad old days” before they received the sponsorship of the goddess Tymora. 2a-Halflings serve as a notable middle-point for humanoid morphology. In simple terms, virtually all humanoid forms are at most, two leaps from halflings. humans are halflings plus height, and likely one of the first offshoot branches. Dwarves are halflings plus a denser muscular structure, Goblins are nocturnal halflings that have adjusted to a more ambush-centered survival strategy, as opposed to a community-centered one. Gnomes are halflings plus caffeine... Etc., etc. 2b-This theory of central offshoots from a base morphology hold true to humans as well, and whether or not the individual humanoid races evolved naturally or were created by a god, this theory posits that halflings or their human offshoots were used as a starting point that divinity or nature modified after the fact. 3- Halfling genetics are remarkably adaptable, with stout, hairfoot, lightfoot, furchin, tallfellows, and strongheart subraces providing convenient midpoints along the evolutionary chain between halflings and other races. Ghostwise halflings are likely the closest to the ancient precursor halflings from the far realm, due to their more barbaric society and psionic abilities. 4- All halflings possess an extremely alien and unnatural residual trait, further hinting at their far-plane origin: A near-immunity to fear. This feature does not make sense in the slightest as a natural adaptation for a race of such small stature, as they are considered ideal prey by all manner of vicious creatures. In a martial communal society, (Hobgoblins, for example,) this could be explained as an outgrowth of the impulse to sacrifice oneself for the survival of the community, but halflings are deeply integrated, interpersonal, largely peaceful,^ and mostly agrarian, all of which would discourage this trait if their biology conformed to the rules and standards of this dimension. 5- Far realm incursions have been well documented to produce creatures with predispositions towards psionic abilities, (again, ghostwise halflings!) Incomprehensible psychology, manipulative appendages, and mutable physiology, all of which are present in halflings. Perhaps the “Bad old days” are a misconstrued reference to their time before this world, or their transition from the far realm to this one, as such a transition has been noted to be incomprehensibly unpleasant in the cases of other aberrant creatures. ^Perhaps that is another way in which halflings are unnatural, that is to say, their cheerful communal outlook on a world that very much tries to kill them. Some aberrations are unnaturally cruel, or curious, or egotistical. Perhaps halflings are unnaturally... wholesome? _What follows after this point in the essay are pages of writing that become increasingly technical and filled with citations of often extremely obscure texts and theories about the nature of interplanar existence. One mildly amusing section tangents into the peculiar proliferation of creatures that look like frogs throughout the multiverse, namely grung, grippli, bullywugs, nergaliid, hezrou, froghemoths, slaadi, hydroloth, and batrachi. As the author rambles about the possibility that this could be evidence of the batrachi becoming an interplanar species after their disappearance from history, your eyes have glazed beyond the point of productive reading._

I love the Scro, but not for classic reasons. I was an avid reader when I was a young AD&D player who was usually the DM. I saw the Middle Earth connections to AD&D's world and ran with than in my world-building when the original source was absent. As a teen, I created the High Orc, the precursor to just about all goblionoids as well as the superior Orcs. They were the first (or first few) generation(s) of corrupted Elves who became the anti-Elves before the Drow actually failed at being anti-Elves by being the evil Elves. The reason the could breed with anything except Elves is closely linked with them being anti-Elves, becoming the opposite of their blood origin, is because they became the antithesis to being Elf. They had positive aspects compared to Elves (such as not at all being racist except against elves) while being essentially the fantasy world version of being (selectively non-racist) Nazis. Much of their weapons, crafts, etc are technically strongly Elf in technology and quality in all ways save for magic but they are designed in cruel and functional manners. An Elf sword is a work of art that usually glows with a bit of magic. A High-Orc sword is just as good, very similar under a microscope, but is designed to deliver as much pain and as much damage as possible. It's the same weapon, but uglier.... or "the same level of ugly" to a Dwarf weapon smith. When my friend introduced me to Spelljammer and later Scro, I fell in love with this race because I saw Scro as the rebirth of the OG bloodline of High Orc. I had my own canon and Loom of Magus universe that we both did a lot of mental gymnastics to adopt back then to work together. I began my space travel (Prime Material Plane) thing with the Barrier Peaks module as the inspiration, along with the books I read. To be honest, I hated Spelljammer at first for exactly that.

We could build a whole adventuring party based on these guys. A Scro team. They could roll around the land in warmer climates or tighten up formation when they must brave the cold. I'd love to see a Scro team hanging out at the tavern for all to see. I bet that would raise some eyebrows!

I have a suggestion: How about a lore video about the "real world" and its place in D & D canon. I remember all those "Wizard's Three" articles from Dragon magazine that took place on Earth. There are a few other references too. I seem to remember a module where you stole the Mace of St. Cuthbert from the British Museum.

Leather armor is an overused fantasy troop. There are plenty of videos on youtube where they weave multi cloth layers for gambesons padded armor that once treated with render down cow milk for glue can stop arrow fire at a decent range. Depending on all the .. fluff .. you hear and seen over the years, proper made gambeson or even multi layer pig skin leather breast plate was good at stopping 90lb bow drawn arrow fire from 50ft range. More or less stating that unless you fire an arrow up into the air and have gravity do your work with little direct aiming. You had to get within 30ft or so with any hope of armor penetration. That being said. I still work with 3.5e rules of multi classing and maxing up skill ranks form PC backgrounds and other social game play encounter. In other videos in the comment section I went through and argue CR for vermin catching to level up PC just by hunting and gathering. Then you have social .. role .. playing in court setting to level up your social skills. Try convincing a group of orc leaders through Intimidation, Bluff, and Diplomacy along with using Preform (stage acting) with Profession ( actor ) to back up your Profession( militia member/soldier which covers small group tactics and the ability to follow orders.) You can kill five orc warband leader and get Xp for that, or you can make a bunch of multiple skill check rolls to convince them to follow you into battle. Mini maxing multi class N/PC, starting with rogue at first level for the most skill points to build up Craft skills and Social skill. Goal to reach in PC development, .. Rogue2/fighter2/ranger1 " feat Tracking"/then npc class Expert2 for 12 bonus skill points. CR: 6 or 8 or how you like it. Orc tough enough to get by on their own passing into adult hood for hunting and maintain their own sewing and leather gear. As for skills, rogue2 grants 5ranks in social skills of bluff, diplomacy " orc style," intimidation, and sense motive. Total: 16pts at 1st-level and 4pts at second level. Then you have profession( soldier) with the same points. There goes your first 24 points with only 3pts at 2nd-level to level up one of your craft or rogue skills by a single rank. Two levels in fighter gives two feats for combat, and due to the limited skill points, you still can assign those points for an extra 3ranks or 4ranks in Intimidation or go with Profession(soldier/tactics.) Then you have the npc class Expert giving the n/pc a +3Will save bonus along with an additional two skills a bonus of 5ranks in social or knowledge skills. 2.) Basic write up, having an 8th-level multiclass N/PC with the Leadership feat, CR:8 in single combat with BAB:+5 or CR:12 or higher controlling a warband. Skills, Profession(soldier): +10 ranks with modifiers, Bluff 5ranks, Intimidation 10ranks (+12) with +2modifier from 5ranks in Bluff. With lucky rolls will socially get a more melee dangerous fighter to follow them. Beside the Star Wars rpg had other skill listing for Imperial officers such as profession( administer) with around 8 to 10ranks to manager star sectors of the fleet. Skills for orcs such as Bluff and preform(acting ) helps them make the correct body language pose to put on a display of strength during Diplomacy exchanges. b.) As for orc females, just start them off as 1st-level rogues due to all the social politicking and backstabbing women can be known for in high school, let alone in the workplace. Most end all results for social pecking order turns into a punching/wrestling contest. So place an adult female that has a few children as a rogue3/fighter2, CR:5 threat. Feats are Improved Initiative and Unarmed Combat along with Point Blank Shot/Throw. If you fail your Bluff check against them, you go to block a high punch and only end up getting kicked in your knee or ankle stomped for an extra 2d6 dmg. Women craft skills such as Weaving and Craft(rope) is used to created gambeson tough armor for winter wear and war supplies. Along with beer brewing. Look at a Viking era fishing village, how much goat/sheep hair was needed to create a boat sail ? .. A lot ?! c.) Over the years D&D started with and went from, Canan the Barbarian, Lord of the Rings, AD&D where players gate keep and whined that orcs/hobgoblins can't have PC levels, and now high fantasy of Harry Potter. This is Medieval .. European .. fantasy, you don't get to PC a character with Sunglasses or any type of Eye Wear ! Unless all lizardmen are part dragon, lizards/reptiles do not run around in snow cover mountains fighting dwarves or giants. d.) Other than the lack of skill points the npc Expert has, or hack/slash dungeon crawls having orcs as 1st-level npc warrior. Start them off as 1st-level rogues with profession/craft skills of lumber jack, carpenters, shipwrights and farmers just to feed themselves and create their own war supplies. My pass gaming shop did use 3e system rules to figure out the number of yearlong Survival checks you need at what rank levels to feed yourself, and your young family members before and during winter. Running a stone age hunter gather nomadic family low magic game is not for everyone. Now being that 6th-level npc Adept creating a +2 stone spear along with a few other items and have those items turn up a few thousand years later in your current campaign is still a cool campaign plot effect. Had a game where a half ogre that ash painted himself and fought with a harden oak staff wrapped in raw hide and set a light with render fat into a " flaming sword," being killed by a pony ridding goat/sheep herder who lost an eye in combat created the myth of Odin/Wotan. Sorry for the rant, hope you are enjoying your weekend.

@@unintentionallydramatic Nah, far from it. My first gaming shop during the late 1990's playing AD&D were pretty bad but most of the players were cool, we a had a few dozen players. Yeah some of the thirty year olds were total d1cks. Then you had the Whitewolf/World of Darkness(WoD): Vampire the Masquerade larpers were total posers. Overall, the shop owner, DMs and players were very freewheeling. We were playing AD&D mind flayer illithids as 14th-level wizards. And the AD&D shop DM back in 1998 allow my PC to bribe a Drow patrol with maple candy, lemon honey cough drops , and sour lemon head candies. Main reason because I had a book covering the history of the late 1800's mafia war in Sicily to control the lemon/orange orchards. So, orange flavor taffy and brandy was very valuable up till the 1900's with steam power ocean shipping. Half the players came from bad backgrounds and were bully for being smarter/creative than average, or at least interested in reading books. Along with finding it Fun to do word math problems. We grew up in physical abusive childhoods so we were looking for a more structure life in game play where everyone agreed to avoid alcohol and establish rules to go by, and to bend and break when needed. Without a drunken parent punching you. We got into playing Stone Age settings due to the 1980's movie " Clan of the Cave Bear," along with a comic series called " Elf Quest." We did more than a few Elf Quest games. Both of my gaming shops over a ten year frame had a weight bench, along with six 50lb truck tires, and house rule, " If you can press and dead lift it, then it is your character's strength score." Most players prefer to Role play PCs with lower strength scores cause it was an added challenge. Like a football jock PCing a bad eyesight rogue with low dexterity. 2.) My second gaming shop I went to played mostly 3.5e, with very strong home brewing house rules, it was a fun mad house. One player interrupted the DM role playing a red dragon during a " bully " intimidation encounter and spoke as a red dragon with a Lisp and stuttering problem. He just stole the DM's moment. Well, the DM did lose her train of thought and strutted, and he just ran with it. We all were just in tears. Since that moment the DM had him run that given dragon during all encounters. Also if your PC was making unbelievable die rolls in the social skills of Bluff, Diplomacy, and Preform( dry humor, slap stick due to bad dexterity rolls.) She would just hand out levels in rogue/bard to reflect that given character interaction at the gaming table. Ironic enough even with being handed two to four class level above everyone else and gaining a +4/+6 to Reflex saves, the dice just hated that PC/player and still fails any important require dexterity rolls. Which just added to the comic moment. And if your PC is the most prone to falling down greased staircases, they need the extra hit points.

funny how Orc history is always, " The humanoid purge of goblinkind reached a fever pitch, then Orcs became too big and strong for the elves to pick on them and that's why Orc's are evil" and people get all offended when some people find dnd lore to be a little racist

Don't worry I'm right there with you. My sci Fi is aliens my fantasy is "races" it's odd when they blend them. Can't stand that further Warhammer bs either. Let's mix high fantasy with hi-tech and zero plot(sorry Warhammer fans they are terrible books ...worse than star wars. Such bad writing all around...). Great old school version for tabletop medieval battles though.... They should have stuck to it. But I guess they've got a few on their side. 40k should be blowing everyone at Blizzard non stop for allowing them to succeed(any older gamers know exactly what I mean as Warhammer almost died...)
