The beach scene was one of those lucky ad libs. The actor didn't hear the director yell CUT and he just kept walking, right over that boulder and down the beach. One of the funniest bits in the movie.

Holga's class is barbarian. So she's very strong and has the ability to rage like Grog from vox machina. She just doesn't yell it out in this movie. And yes dnd has different species and classes. So keyleth and the red haired girl aren't the same species but they are both druids who can use wild shape to change into animals. Nice reaction guys!

Like you said, Holga was more of a mother to her, so definitely have to bring her back
@tjadenjason Жыл бұрын
Exactly this. Edgin had to come to the realization that he wasn't bringing "your mom" back, but "my wife." That *could* be a perfectly fine thing to want to do, but he'd been rationalizing the "I did it for you" narrative for so long that maybe for a while he started to believe he really was rather than doing it for himself. For his daughter, Holga was the only mom she really ever knew. Her birth mom was important, but the emotional heart for his daughter was Holga. Edgin took that second step of not just realizing that he had been holding onto that chance for himself, but then also deciding to let it go and really-for-real give his daughter back the mom she almost lost. It was honestly kind of a beautiful and unexpected moment. But guys, Holga *clearly* has a type and Edgin is NOT IT. :D
@sandseasentinel8785 Жыл бұрын
In this world, there is fair evidence even for common people that the souls of the departed reach their gods. This is what Xenk (the Paladin) meant about Edgin depriving his wife of a new life. Holga and Edgin have a great platonic friendship, even though both support Kira essentially as parents. I really appreciate the depiction in the movie and that there wasn't any kind of romance forced between them. If I was in Edgin's position, I think I would also have brought Holga back.

I love this movie. It captures the vibe of actually playing D&D so well, it really feels like there’s people sitting around a table off camera and what we’re seeing on screen is what they’re seeing in their heads. Like, the portal staff is a classic example of the players screwing up the DM’s carefully laid out plans, and the DM having to improvise some BS to move the story forward, only for the players to find creative ways to use and abuse the improvised tool later in the game.

Doric and Keyleth from Vox Machina are both Druids. Druids in D&D are spellcasters that draw on the powers of nature (though Doric in this movie doesn't really use any magic), they also have an ability called Wild Shape, which allows them to temporarily transform into animals.
@kayleighpaxton971311 ай бұрын
While none of the Critical Role characters (particularly Vox Machina) are in this movie, when we meet the sorcerer while he’s trying to steal people’s valuables during his magic show, he makes a Fresh Cut Grass joke which is referencing one of the characters from Critical Role’s current campaign! Specifically Sam’s character, the guy who plays Scanlan in TLOVM!

I would've revived Holga. She was the only mom Kira knew. They use practical effects where ever they could. Yes, there was a lot of CGI, but some of it was actually practical. The sinking into the quicksand floor? That was practical. I forgot now they did it, but so goooood. And, for those of us who are DnD and RPG fans, this movie made us so damn happy! Every inch of it was a true Dungeons and Dragons experience. (Right down to the paladin who came in, helped, then peaced out by walking proudly into the distance.) Spouse and I were giggling with delight every second of this movie! I swear you can FEEL the fun the people who made this movie had! Also, there was a cameo appearance of some characters from the 80s DnD cartoon that briefly aired. They did throwbacks all across the generations.

There's a little bit of a WoT connection here, as the same composer, Lorne Balfe, did the music for both. It's most noticeable during Holga's big fight in the armory towards the end. There's a lot of similarity in the sound for that particular piece.

One of the things I love about this movie is that it's accessible to non-D&D players. That the story stands on it's own. I love that it foreshadowed the Holga resurrection moment well enough that you knew what he was facing when it came up. But it bothers me that you so wanted the Bard and Holga to be in a romantic relationship. ...I mean, they could have written it that way. It might have made a tighter story arc... ...but I think it would have made it feel more like a normal story and not a D&D story. Because romance isn't simple in a D&D story. The thing is, when a group is playing D&D, it's a table of friends and often some of them have real life familial relationships. And the group is playing an assortment of characters that may or may not be related to/have previous relationships with each other. So, play acting a romantic relationship between player characters can be dicey and possibly very uncomfortable, depending on who the players of the characters are. So a lot of times, even when a normal story would do a romantic arc between two characters, it's not fun to play that in a D&D campaign. I know there are some romance arcs in Vox Machina, but those players are professional actors/voice actors. They have practice and the willingness lean into the crazy. Where armature players are more easily made uncomfortable. Which kills the fun. And on a certain level, I'm rather insulted that you aren't OK with a woman being able to be good, reliable "I've got your back" type friend with a guy without it having to be sexy. =/ I mean really? As if that's the only way women are allowed to interact with men. 🙄I mean, Holga didn't ask to be resurrected. She died a great barbarian death. Much glory. Very cool. Saving her friends. Time for the player to design their next character. It was the Bard's decision, and he made it for his daughter's sake. And that was a great character moment for him as a dad, because he hadn't been putting his daughter's interests first. I don't see why such a lovely father/daughter/friend moment should be trivialized by trying to insist that Holga is obligated no to find the guy sexy. =/

@Stratelier4 ай бұрын
I don't play D&D so am not familiar with the specifics but I believe the rule of thumb goes something like: 1 - "Raise" = brings a person back from death, but only if their body is still generally intact and the cause of death was recent (e.g. a mortal injury) 2 - "Resurrect" = Calls a person back from death, requiring only that the caster has access to their remains (which are used as material to construct their resurrected body) 3 - "True resurrect" = Calls a person back from death with "no questions asked", requiring only knowledge of the individual to be revived; it will create a new body for them if needed There are some technicalities and finer points, most notably that the deceased person is able to refuse being resurrected and remain in their afterlife.
