Because most "normies" don't know what tropes are, or even the word trope for that matter. Most people that know this term and what they are are usually classified as geeks, or nerds. Or they are geek/nerd adjacent. For example I am a little bit of a comic book nerd (I dabble so I have more knowledge than a normie but not enough to be able to reference individual conic book issue numbers) my wife was a normie until we dated and now she knows most the names and aliases of the b through d class characters of Marvel heroes.

To have avoided the word trope, you'd have had to not be paying attention for the last 20-30 years. Geeks/Nerds are more familiar with it, but, even they may not know the word til someone brings it up

Well, TECHNICALLY, since we're talking about the Borg here, and they were introduced in ST:TNG, the colors were changed so that command wore red (more burgundy) and security wore gold (more mustard). Therefore, "The wearing of the red" did not constitute unavoidable death in Next Gen. I'm such a nerd.

No. Uniform colors didn't mean anything in tng. Think about it. People constantly changed uniform colors. They added colors. They did whatever they felt like. Worf was red then gold. Wesley was red. Troi was purple then blue. They should have stayed with what tos turned into.
