Can I recommend some war movies that I think your father would really like? ''La Battaglia di Algeri'' a.k.a. ''The Battle of Algiers'' (1966), ''L'Armée des Ombres'' a.k.a. ''Army of Shadows'' (1969), ''Lacombe Lucien'' (1974), ''Soldaat Van Oranje'' a.k.a. ''Soldier of Orange'' (1977), the director's cut of ''Das Boot'' a.k.a. ''The Boat'' (1981) and ''Stalingrad'' (1993), but I guess he already have seen the first movie...

Despite the success of the operation, 40,000 soldiers, most of them French, were captured in the Dunkirk pocket. In addition, all heavy equipment and vehicles had to be abandoned. 2,472 guns, almost 65,000 vehicles and 20,000 motorcycles were left behind in France. 377,000 tonnes of supplies, over 68,000 t of ammunition and 147,000 t of fuel were also abandoned.

The blind old man in my opinion is supposed to imply he is a first world war veteran who survived a gas attack hence why he is now blind and why he is telling the soldiers that surviving is enough.
@steven95N

This was still the early war. The soldiers look clean cut because for most of them, Dunkirk and there events leading up to it was their first encounter with the enemy. Military dress standards were still heavily enforced ect. Also, flying in formation like that is more realistic. Helps you identify friend or foe easily and your squadmates/wingman won't get jumped by the enemy. If they catch a straggler out of formation, that's the aircraft they're going to go after first, same with us. Though, they wouldn't be that low, even after a dog fight, you would immediately being to gain altitude again. Altitude and speed are your main weapons.

I stumbled upon your channel a few months ago and just wanted to say your reactions are some of the best. Most of the time when people are talking they miss a lot stuff but you guys are really good at still paying attention, being able to do that is I think is great and adds more to your content where with others it takes it away. I’d like to recommend a couple movies I haven’t seen anyone react to but in my opinion are very good: Beasts of no Nation, and the Siege of Jadotville.

my grandfather was at dunkirk, and above my fireplace in a frame is a bullet the medics pulled out of his lung, he kept it because the nurse that pulled it out he later married, and as a kid he would say to me "i wish i could thank the german who shot me in the chest, because of him i met my lovely wife"

The greatest victory from defeat EVER. If they hadn't sailed, the world would have been a very different place. Hard not to cry, but when those boys came home, they came home as HEROs but they were 10,0000 times angrier when they went back.

16:26 it never says it, but there’s a reason the old man is blind. A common side effect of the mustard gas used during the First World War was blindness. If your gas masked wasn’t properly secured and let some gas in, it would fry your eyes and you’d go blind. My assumption with the blind man has always been that he’s a British veteran of the First World War who was blinded in a gas attack. And so when he says “that’s enough” to just survive, it’s because he understands that surviving is enough. That’s the best you can do in war. Just survive it.

I love the relationship between you guys, the enemy hated that plane, because it could be repaired in minutes, seeing your dad get emotional, he’s like my father, not a cryer but when he does, it’s for good reasons. Nothing wrong in a good cry. Thank you. it was the big disaster that the Germans outflanked the French and British forces, thanks for the review, love from south wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 wales UK, lost family in this battle. This is what they’re trying to do, is blot out history, so we don’t learn from our mistakes, today the big agenda is what they identify with, back then it was how to survive from one day to the next.

So I want to make a war movie recommendation, 1917, which takes place during the First World War (The Great War) about a young man and his friend tasked to deliver a message across enemy lines to stop an attack in order to save the young man's brother and the 1,600 men from charging into a trap. It gives a similar feel as Dunkirk, but it's done in one continuous take (well, looks it, but it's still very impressive) if you decide to give it a watch it'd be interesting to know what you think of it.

Great video! Your Dad's reactions are fun to watch! Though this was released a year ago, and you probably won't see this (plus what I'm going to say doesn't affect the quality of the reactions, which are still great), I heard you mention that you thought it was World War I, but it was actually WWII. The so-called "Miracle of Dunkirk" took place in 1940 as Nazi Germany seemed to be on the verge of winning the war, effectively pushing the Allies out of the continent immediately prior to France's surrender and the Axis powers' domination of the majority of continental Europe. If you're ever unsure of which war a movie is depicting, one way to immediately tell is by paying attention to the type of German soldiers and their flags. If it involves the Nazis and you see swastikas, it's World War II. While the Germans were the adversaries in both wars, it was the German Empire, which was led by an aristocracy and a royal house with an emperor titled the "Kaiser" in World War I, and then after their defeat, Hitler came to power in the '30s between the wars. While the German Empire prior to their defeat in WWI were by no means "nice guys," the Nazis were a much more extremist, totalitarian, and genocidal regime that took advantage of the German people's bitterness over their defeat in WWI, blaming the Jews and other ethnic, religious, and political minorities for "stabbing them in the back" (which was a complete fabrication) during that war. Hopefully I don't come off as a know-it-all or too critical, and I apologize if you've learned this since this video was released, but I just thought I'd offer that bit of info since I also find this period of history super fascinating. Either way, you've gained a subscriber!
