+ZsifeZ You won't regret it! I think Yakuza 4 goes for free on Playstation Plus sometimes (it's $20 on PSN at the moment). It's a good place to start because it has video recaps of the previous 3 games, since the first and second game were on PS2 and are hard and expensive to find nowadays. The recaps obviously leave out the bizarre side stuff you can get into though.

+otakuploader The HD rereleases of 1 and 2 came out long ago on PS3 and Wii U, the west just never got them and probably won't ever because the Wii U version sold a paltry 2000 copies in Japan or something. +El Rocky Raccoon It's amazing. This series is one of the most complete games you'll find out there. A good story and a LOT of amazing side stuff to do. Ironically enough, the story is also one of the least cynical stories out there, which is ironic due to its organized crime genre. But yeah, no DLC bullshit, no pre-order bonus bullshit and no disk-locked bullshit. They deliver the game to you full, just like how every other game should be, but unfortunately many people don't try out this series and instead go for games that are half complete and their other half is DLC.

I think everyone who’s already played a Yakuza game should avoid Shenmue. There’s absolutely no merit in playing either of them. They are both long because of the hamfisted real-time clock they put in it, the fighting is awful, and the story (which is its strongest point) is pretty bad based on game standards. Put it in a museum and play Yakuza; because it’s Shenmue, but actually good.

Yakuza 3 was my first Yakuza game so I will forever absolutely love it. It even inspired me to move and live in Japan (which I achieved; living and working in Japan for two years before I had enough and left). I've played Yakuza 0, 1,2, 4, 5 and 6 and I'd rank 3 as second best just for the Villain alone. Mine was awesome. The soundtrack and side content was epic. But it's hard to top 0.

3 isn’t the weakest. I’ll concede on the combat in boss fights, but apart from that exposition dump the story is really solid and the side quests are really good 6 is the weakest IMO, every new character is a weaker version of someone we’ve seen before, the villain sucks, the plot’s overly complicated (which is really saying something) and nothing of consequence ever happens.
