I just got mine 1 month ago. I hvnt use zoom for many years. This zoom is really something else. The 1kg weight is a god sent. I am a person who goes out shooting for a whole day so every weight saving is good for me. The gm2 is also sharp as if its a prime. I love it. My other go to lenses are the 35gm and 85gm. Traded up to the MK II after owning the MK I version, and I have to say the Lighter weight is almost worth the price alone, but that on top of all the little upgrades they added makes the MK II worth it if you can swing the price tag.

Very good review. I picked one up a few months ago, and it has lived on my a7iv since then. I mostly shoot at poorly lit arenas (amateur ringette and hockey), and it's been fantastic. Absolutely no problems shooting at F2.8 (and, they're both VERY fast moving sports). The weight difference is HUGE versus the mark i. My hands would ache on longer shoots. This lens is a pleasure to use.

This lens is ridiculous. Used it at a wedding the other day and not a single missed shot, not even in low light and every single image was tack sharp. I've also paired it with the 2X tele for wildlife and nature shots when I don't feel like lugging the 2-6 around and it does very well. If I need extra reach I simply throw the camera in crop mode.

It's an amazing looking and performing lens and I wish I could justify one. For me it was a simple choice, spend that on the lens to go with my A7IV, or use that money for 10 days in NYC including premium seats from the UK at Christmas. I went with the trip. More important to go places and do photography than just keep buying gear to play with at home.

As a hobbyist photographer who occasionally gets jobs to shoot videos or pics that are paid, I am currently weighing my options. The MK1 is on sale on Amazon for under $2K, and the MKII is still the $2.8K. So I am wondering if spending the almost $1k extra is worth it to a hobbyist? For reference I shoot on an A7IV that I own since launch. I have a Sigma 24-70 and the 16-28 both at F2.8. I do shoot at night time quite a bit so having a zoom at F2.8 is worth but I do want something longer like this 70-200.

I've been in the market for a lens with more reach (around 400mm). I've come to the conclusion that this lens plus the 2x teleconverter might be the best/most versatile combo. At half the aperture (5.6) it's still faster than the 3rd party 400mm zoom lenses and just as fast as the 100-400gm. Plus you have the ability to use the lens without the teleconverter which gives you a much faster lens. It's definitely pricey, but not really if you're in the market for both a 70-200 and ~400mm lens.

As far as focus breathing compensation goes, I've **heard** that the reason it hasn't been introduced on the FX3 and A7Siii (as much as I'd LOVE it on my FX3) is because the sensor resolution isn't high enough. I don't know how much resolution is actually necessary, but apparently the 400 pixels of horizontal width beyond 16:9 4K on the Sony 12 MP sensors (native sensor width on the FX3 is 4240px) isn't sufficient to support that feature. The 4K footage on the A7iv is 7K oversampled and downscaled, and either way the sensor obviously has plenty of extra pixels beyond 4K resolution.

@wingcreator
@wingcreator 2 жыл бұрын
@@nrocha2466 Yes, your good breakdown of the differences is bang on. There are obvious reasons for the price difference, not just for the Sony badge alone. Nowadays, people are just comparing lenses more on the performance-price ratio than really saying a lens is amazing without arguing there are not enough differences for price differences! There is nothing that touches 70200GM2, PERIOD. If the budget is tight, YES, the Tamron is the best budget 70-180 (ok, it is not quite 70-200 as Sony, one of its shareholders is making Tamron making funny mm and TC not compatible FE lenses as not direct competition). However, if the price is not a consideration, then 70200GM2 is the new king of 70-200mm in terms of AF, image quality, and min focus 0.4m @ 70mm (at least until now).

Can I get away with using the 24mm to do all my performance shots and b roll for rap music videos? Or am I right that a 35mm would do way better? And have you heard anything on the 35mm G master? I live on the "Wet" Coast of Canada, Gibsons B.C/ Vancouver area. What kind of jacket is that? I could maybe get 9 or 10 of those instead of this lens. lol. No, but really, what kind is it? :) My random guess is that the shot at 2:07 wasn't shot on the 70-200. You gonna reveal it?
@dunnadidit
@dunnadidit 2 жыл бұрын
Haha it’s a fjallraven and I’m a bit embarrassed to say you might only get like 6 of these jackets for the price of that lens (why did I spend so much on a jacket haha). Haha you’re about 10 seconds early on the guess.

@@dunnadidit Nothing wrong with having nice gear, tech or wear, you get what you pay for. I have a music rehearsal/event space that has the odd Sample Sale, I wish fjallraven would reach out. ;) ahhh.. ok, I thought that was the shot at first and someone else commented. I thought you might have been sneaky and shot the camera/lens shot with another lens on your A1 to fool everyone. (good idea for a future, "Guess which shot...")

A belter as usual, D! This is not a lens for me as I don't shoot scenery or wildlife. That does not detract from this being an top drawer review. My stab at the scene that was not shot on the new Sony 70-200. I think there are 2. Your opening and B-Roll where you cut away to it. Did I win? 🤔😆

You would need to be pretty far away from the camera to get the full body in there. It would give you a cool compression effect that I’ve been seeing on lots of reels/TikTok dance videos though lately.

Hi Dunna, great video as always...just a question: why all photos were shot in f2.8? Is there a specific reason? Am I missing something? Because I understand you want bokeh for birds, or lots of light if you are at dusk or in the woods, but I don't understand why you used that aperture for landscapes (like the one with the white mountains). Thank you for any eventual answer ;)
@dunnadidit
@dunnadidit 2 жыл бұрын
Hey! I actually shot a bunch at other apertures too, they just didn’t end up being the ones I used for the examples. Mostly it was for light or just for speed. I happened to be on f2.8 already and quickly wanted to snap one haha.

I have this lens but if I had it to do over again I would get the new sigma 70-200mm 2.8 and use the extra money to get another lens but I do love this lens but think I would be just as happy with the sigma at a lot cheaper price and I did get a new foot for it so I don’t need to put a plate on to mount it to a tripod and picked one up for my Sony 200-600mm lens also and I did get the 1.4 and the 2x converters and find that I use this lens with the converters more then I use my 200-600mm lens for here in Alaska for the wildlife here

70200GM2 + 1.4x (98-280mm f4) / 2.0x (140-400mm f5.6) will give longer reaches. I played with my friends' Tamron 35-150 f2 / 2.8 which is fine but not something I would use often. The f2 at the wider ends doesn't make my work easier as I tend to use Samyang AF 50 II, 85 and 135 primes more often + my 1635GM / 70200GM.

It’s not really up to me. I do reviews as I can get ahold of things. But the shipping issues that are happening right now aren’t really under my control.
