Rains a lot here but the nice days are simply gorgeous like this one. I was here for two years on the USS Holland from 1976-1978 in supply. Used to supply the ship with warheads for the submarines to toilet paper. Had to ride that ferry from the middle of the Loch to shore to get to town. Even rented a room in town for a time. Great place , great people and downtown hasn't changed a bit in 39 years. The people here are salt of the earth. It's timeless still has that feel. Thanks very much for posting. Takes me back....

My Dad was in S-3 Div on the Holland from 77-80. His last part of his tour he was in Master of Arms. He was on the Drydock in 66-67 or 68. I was born on his first tour and my brother was born during his 2nd tour. I went back in 89 to visit my Grandparents. My Grandpa had a barbershop in Helensburgh for many years.

My step father was stationed there during 71-72 on the Canopus. I went to the local high school there. It’s surreal to look now and see the place. It was much busier amd filled with more people than what I see now. I loved it. Met a local girl named Ruby who befriended me there

Bombay is no longer there. I think they closed it maybe just after this. (I visited March 2015 and August 2016.)All the businesses that were attached to the Queen's Hall are gone. They redid the entire building. I got to go to one of the first concerts there (the Proclaimers,) when they re-opened last summer. Definitely an improvement.

Fiona thanks for the update. I enjoyed visiting the Bombay occasionally while living in Sandbank. The same family owed a club too which opened while I was there. Not the pier although I think they owned that at one time as well.
