The small coastal village of John o’ Groats is the starting point for many embarking on the famous 'End to End' journey to Land's End in England, approximately 876 miles away. This Highland Village provides unspoilt scenery and incredibly interesting wildlife to include birds, seals, dolphins, minke and killer whales in the surrounding waters. Boat trips are available from the town to and around the wild cliffs nearby.
Dunrobin Castle is the most northerly of Scotland's great houses and the largest in the Northern Highlands with 189 rooms. This castle is also one of Britain's oldest continuously inhabited houses dating back to the early 1300s, home to the Earls and later, the Dukes of Sutherland. The Castle was used as a naval hospital during WW1 and as a boys’ boarding school from 1965 to 1972.
Blair Castle was used as an auxiliary hospital during the Great War and from 1922 the family found it more convenient to live in the private apartments.
We also walked around Inverness, also regarded as the capital of the Highlands.
