I lived in Portpatrick for three years in my early teens back in early 80's. I used to visit Dunskey castle everyday. It wasn't blocked off back then.

Thanks for posting this! My name is Kenneth Adair and as I understand from researching my genealogy that the first Adair to acquire Dunskey Castle was my 17th great grandfather Sir Robert Fitzgerald De Adair. It was in the hands of a man named Currie that had been entrusted as keeper of the Wigton Castle but was declared a rebel by the King and whoever produced Currie, dead or alive, would be rewarded his castle and lands. My 17th Great Grandfather tracked him down and was rewarded Dunskey.

My daughter and I visited the castle this past October after researching our ancestry with the Adair family as well. I tracked my grandmothers fathers links to find the Dunsky castle. Very interesting and I would love to know more. Amazing place. Sounds like they left in 1510. Also links to No. Ireland once they left Scotland. Please share your records or links. Thank you, Connie

I, too, am from the same Adair line. It's an awesome experience to be able to sit in my home in US and see where my ancestors lived. Thank you! I so hope to visit Ireland one day.❤

Hi Phil, I have an actual photo of a silhouette standing in one of the high windows of the castle. It is quite amazing and changed my belief in ghosts entirely! I would send a copy to you but don't know how. Often thought someone someday will be able to explain what I can see with my eye.
