the thing about the football world cup is that it only takes place every 4 years and always in other countries around the world. 32 teams from all over the world who have qualified for the tournament, compete there. each team consists of the best players each country has to offer. 23 players are allowed to take part in the worldcup for each country. the main eleven (10 field players & 1 goalkeeper) start first. During a game however, only 3 of the 12 substitutes that sitting on the bench can be substituted on, per Match. How long does a game last? = Normally 90min (first half=45min / 15min break in the locker room / second half = 45min.) Winner get 3 Points. (after the Group Matches, in the K.O. Final Matches) then if after 90min. no winner has been determined, there is a 5-minute break on the pitch / 15-minute overtime / change of sides / 15-minute overtime / if there is still no winner, there comes a penalty shoot-out.) each team has at least 3 (group) games for Points, in small groups the best two going to the 1/8 Final, and from big groups also the best 3rd. when you go to the Final(finalist) you have play'd 7 games and the tournament goes 4 weeks. In these circumstances the teams that have the most of best players in all positions usually win. as an example: argentina with messi, besides him there are currently only angel di maria, paulo dybala, lautaro martinez, leandro paredes or giovani lo celso. that's only 6 players including messi out of 23 Teammates who, let's say, really have world class stature, and only messi alone is absolutely world class. the same is with Portugal with c.ronaldo. although I think Portugal a bit has the better national team than argentina, nevertheless, that's not enough for a world cup trophy. the circumstances, form on the day, luck and so on, all have to play a role in order to become world champion. i would say portugal has 10 worldclass player out of 23. france current world champions have at least 16-18 world-class players and at least 4 absolute world-class players out of 23. that's why national teams with good leagues are always there or countries with many players in the best teams in the best leagues . possible world champion candidates from countries with good leagues are Spain, Germany, France, Italy, England, possible world champion candidates with many players from the best leagues that don't have a very good league in their own country: Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Croatia, Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands. That's why it's so difficult to become world champion. everything has to fit! it may well be that two of the best Player in this sport namely messi & ronaldo will never win the world title in their careers. one or two absolute world-class players are not enough for that. as a Barca fan since 1994, I would wish for messi, but treat both of them. Hat-trick comes from an old age of football when men were still wearing hats in the late 1800's and early 1900's. It was a custom back then when someone did something nice to you or achieved something hard, you honored him by taking off your hat in front of him. It can refer too, for the viewers when they were jumping up so hard after a good play that their hats fell off their head, hence you are "tricking their hats off".
