He actually didnt write this song in jail. In many interviews he said he couldnt write anything in jail cuz jail tales away your spirit. He just read books like crazy and plotted his return. All his songs that he wrote was pure adrenaline. He would write in the booth as the beat played and many people attest to this including Dr. Dre & Snoop. So when Ambitionz as A Ridah beat came on, he raced to the booth and wrote it all out in 15 minutes. He would let the beat play 2-3 times max to write his thoughts out and then he would deliver the vocal performances in 2 takes. So engineers and people thought he was writing out a song he mustve always had but he would put references in from that day and they would be shocked as there was no possible way he couldve wrote songs beforehand while putting in references and conversations from that day. Dude was a genius.

I was a pre-teen when this album dropped. This shit was CRAZY when it came on. So this is before streaming & leaks so when we got albums, it was sacred. I’ll never forget us being in a car and put this in and this started the album. We were all in SHOCK at how incredible he set it off. This man had gotten better in jail! Imagine the rape charges, the shooting, the media and the JUDGE putting an APB out on Tupac and basically hinting that the shooting was staged to avoid his sentencing the next day- ALL THAT. And then him being abandoned in prison for over a year and people throwing shots at him. Suge bails him out and he dropped the hardest double album ever! It was incredible. And this intro was just amazing. People were doing skits back then to open the album- this man got right to it! U put the cd in and THIS SHIT came on. I’ll never forget that feeling hearing this in the car. Man, yall will never know how it FELT that year with Tupac killing everything! He had the streets, the girls, the revolutionaries, the intellectuals- everybody! Dude was an absolute genius. An angry genius lol. That double album was too damn good.

I had a similar feeling. I was with my cousin and his step dad had a black 85 cutlass supreme on some chrome thangs. He had picked us up from school that day and I hopped in the backseat. He had an alpine system with two amps and 4 15s under the backseat with tweeters in every corner of the whip. As soon as he pulled off we hit a corner and that’s when I heard his voice, “I WON’T DENY IT, IMA STRAIGHT RIDAH” the beat dropped and the damn bass made me fly out my seat. It hit soooo HARD and was CRYSTAL clear. Lyrically he was flawless. It was February 13th 1996 at the age of 11, I fell in love with hip hop.

pac was evolving into a 2000s rapper on a huge level, easily would have rapped with em and 50. He was getting more lyrical “moving you stupid b’s, this is telekinesis” “thats what im screaming as they drill me” “the game sharper than a mfin straight razor” “two rottweilers by my bed, i feed em lead” “who would have figured all i needed was a hair trigga semi automatic just to scare niggas”. He wrote songs fast but he was also changing his style from early 90s to late 90’s. These are the blueprints to lil wayne and 50 cent when they were learning to rap. Jay z and wayne have both been rapping for 20+ years. 2Pac’s first song with digital underground came out in 1991 and he died in 1996. Imagine a rapper coming out in 2018 and dying in 2023. That was 2pac’s career and this is the impact he left behind. He would have been shot in 2020 and in prison throughout 2022. He would have also been in a movie or television in 2018,2019,2020,2021,2023 AND 2024. Thats why they would say “2pac is white people/mainstream famous” Most rappers today havent done half the work as Pac in twice the time.
