Fantastic video, thanks for sharing! We're also on the path to installing a 4x5m log cabin and your approach has given us plenty of food for thought. For the roof, we're leaning towards a combo of 100mm PIR insulation topped with 18mm OSB, and we're torn between Shingles and EPDM like you've selected. I noted you skipped the breathable membrane - got any tips or changes you'd ponder for the roof setup based on your experience? Also, your method for the flooring stands out; unlike the common strategy of leaving a ventilation gap beneath the cabin, you've opted for a DPM directly on the slabs, cushioned between the bearers, with PIR insulation snug in between, all secure from moisture. We were planning to mirror your PIR insulation strategy (was looking at 100mm PIR) beneath our floor but thought there'd be a base layer above the bearers - your video suggests otherwise. Could you share any insights or suggestions on this? Your guidance would be invaluable.

Great video 👍🏻 really informative. We’ve just ordered ours so it will be a future project for me. I love how you’ve done your flooring insulation. I’ve not seen any other videos where they’ve placed a damp proof membrane underneath and over the floor studs, really makes sense. Can I ask what membrane and insulation you used for the floor?

Looks good. Can I ask what is under your pavers? I’m looking to get a similar cabin and am trying to decide on a suitable base. Thanks

Great video. Can I ask was the idea of those nylon feet you put on at the start, to keep the wood a little bit off the ground so the wood doest rot? And where did you purchase those from please? I have just ordered my Dunster Avon and I am planning for the assembly 😊

Epdm rubber, really good made by Firestone (same as inner tubes I believe) and other manufacturers. comes in 1 3 and 4 mts width, you buy the length you want. It’s very good and easy to handle. Has 50 yr warranty, the white stuff is the glue, there are many KZbin videos on how to lay down the glue and the rubber, key points: layout the epdm with any overhang evenly spaced, fold back half the rubber and starting in the middle, use a mini roller paint the glue on the roof, only paint 18’’ 600mm or so, as being water based it absorbs into the roof material as it only sticks while wet, then roll down the rubber to cover the wet glue, and continue, it is quite a quick process. Try and squeeze out any air bubbles as you go with a sweeping brush, pressing down as you sweep the air bubbles out. this is important as bubbles really stand out. If needed you can joint two pieces together, eg for a more complex roof shape using the manufacturer’s special glue. It is tremendous stuff, the rubber isn’t too expensive (on par with the top quality polyester roofing felt) but easier to fit, however the edge fittings for flat roofs are stupidly expensive. Being Profiled plastic they guide the rainwater they look very neat, but were not used nor needed in this example.

Nice video. I'm going to London next week because i have to assemble my daughter's Rhine log. Doesn't it have to be fixed to the floor?

You mean fix the cabin to the ground? The weight of the cabin will hold it down.
