the best thing Indian - Gujarat state has done is Canal Top system for solar energy. Gujarat long kenal network is longer then even indian railways network. Gujarat govt is now installing solar panels on top of Canal( its done on some Kilometers and successful). main advantages are -1) its widely stoops evaporation of water 2) no need of land acquisition3) can install mini water turbines to produce electricity in bottom of solar panels4) eleccity to surround towns of network-no transmission loss

4) work for lots of people for maintanebce5) if its done 100% on existing kenals -( it will be existing 19000 KM network out of 85000KM network when completed) covered with solar panels - can produce minimum 2200MW of electricity at lowest cost in the world.
