That's a pretty common way to make an Orchestrion to make all the instruments play the exact same notes as the piano, so not a worry. It's the Orchestrions which require more holes than the Pianola 88 player which use separate mechanisms for some of the melodic instruments.

To hear the 'O-roll orchestrion skip to 8:38 . To hear Spike Jones' arrangement of 'Take The A Train' skip to 8:38

So a really important thing you need convert a player to an orchestrion is that spool box. Unless you're in the business like our host, being lucky is key, right?

Wow, this is your magnum opus. How many hours of labor did you put into this? I can't imagine. I hope the owner appreciates your hard work.

Hi Jim. I've wanted an orchestrion O-roll machine (not even as sophisticated as this) all my life. At 76, I found the Mechanical Music Man angel of my dreams. With five solo instruments! I'm stoked to the bone. I only need one machine. I've had player pianos and a home brew nickleodeon for about 4 decades. I never IMAGINED anything close to the quality and sophistication of Bruce's work. It all started out right here on utube with his Test O-Roll orchestrion. Bruce has stayed in contact throughout the entire design, manufacturing & construction. The emails and pictures could fill a book. I can't say enough of how happy he has made me. What a GEM! I plan to play it & show it off as long as I live. I've got some nice 4-panel upper doors and lower 3-panel leaded German beveled stained glass. Maybe Bruce can post it on UTube after it's installed. Next week . . no sleep for the wicked - just music. :)
