Not so much the death of Farmer Rick as putting him into hibernation. This is a recurring theme this season, that 'you can come back'. You can be savage, and vicious, and brutal and do what you need to do to protect yourself and the people you love without losing your humanity. Rick still wants to build something better for his children, but he also can do what needs to be done.

Rick’s arc this season has been amazing! It’s all been about him trying suppress the brutality within himself in order to steer Carl down the right path. That’s why he stepped down as leader and threw all his energy into farming. He even stopped carrying his gun on him. And then, everything he’s built starts to unravel. The prison falls and Rick sees that Carl never will be the kid he wants him to be. And then the ultimate realisation that Rick has failed to protect his son from the brutality of the world, he’s forced to rip a man’s throat out with his teeth to stop Carl being raped! Lacey is exactly right concerning Rick's thoughts and how what Rick does affects Carl. The Rick and Carl dynamic is my favorite piece of the show, so I tend to view their scenes more in-depth than I might others, and this season was especially important for them. We've seen over and over how Rick's primary concern is keeping his son alive and safe. He wants to protect everyone else, he wants to be a leader, sure. But Carl is his number one priority (and Judith is too). Rick is trying to be that protector, to keep his son safe by any means necessary, and to let him be a kid. His job as a father is to provide enough stability for his child to grow up and grow up like any normal kid would. But what he fails to realize at this point is that Carl is NOT a normal kid, and he's not growing up normally. Carl realized this back in season 2, after Sophia went missing and he got shot. He knew he couldn't just rely on the adults to protect him, because half of the time, they couldn't even protect themselves. They couldn't protect the other kids, either. It was every person for themselves. So Carl decided he'd step up and "become a man" - and that's been his journey up until this season. This season, he kept telling himself he could be just fine without his father, that he could survive on his own if it came down to it, if he had no one. But as we saw in "After," he can't. He needs his father, just like Hershel said. Hershel was instrumental in both Rick and Carls' arcs this season. This episode, Rick is finally seeing that he can't keep Carl from the horrible things that happen, and he can't always protect him from them. But he does as much as possible because that's his responsibility. And Carl realizes that his dad CAN protect him, and he's fine with letting him as long as Rick realizes that he's not just a kid anymore, either. There needed to be a balance, for both of them. Great reaction~!

Carl’s Scene with Michonne was amazing!!! One of the first signs since, shooting the innocent boy at the Prison, of what Lori was worried about regarding Carl becoming another animal that doesn’t know anything but how to survive. “I see the way you’ve been looking at your dad...you don’t need to be afraid of me.” “I still have these thoughts...He told me the other day that he was proud of me...that I was a good man...I’m not. I’m not what he thinks I am...I’m just another monster too.” Would love to hear you 2 touch on how everything is affecting Carl & what you think is going to happen with him moving forward.

The Herschel flashbacks were to show the dichotomy of life and raising children in a zombie apacolypse. Remember when Carol last saw Rick she told him. She said,"You can be a farmer Rick. But you can't just be a farmer." Rick came to the realization that he has to be this warrior to keep his family safe. He cannot bury that side of himself with this world but he can still retain his humanity in the process. He knows there has to be a balance. He cannot have one without the other or you will not survive or thrive in this world. He has the added responsibility of teaching his young son to thrive in this world. That's why he says to Daryl that what happened with Tyrese is him too. This is the beginning of zero f***'s Rick! I love this Rick.

The Hershel and Carl flashback thing is like what Lacy said it’s playing in the back of Ricks mind as all this chaos is happening, but the most important part of it is that it shows how Carl didn’t want to change he was becoming obsessed with killing and that’s why he talks to Michonne about how he understands now what his dad wanted for him seeing what the world is like now and why Rick wanted to keep him from it, but obviously those times have passed now. I love how this episode shows how far Rick and Daryl have come since they met. ;o; I too am grateful for Rick ripping a man's throat out to protect my son. I mean... his son. The thing about Hershel and Rick was Hershel basically teaching Rick and having Rick teach Carl to put their guns down and be peaceful. He was trying to remind them that not everything was about fighting and survival, but now they're in a situation where that /is/ that case again. It was like showing that those times are over now, and we're seeing the transition from peaceful Rick to survivor Rick.

Aww...we see our beloved Hershel again. ❤️❤️ Here's my story regarding TWD. I did notice all the hype about this show when it first came out. I'm going to make a request at this time. We all have our favorite and least favorite seasons of the Walking Dead so please do not tell Lacey and Steve at the beginning or middle of a season that it's a horrible season and everybody hates it or vice versa. Please exercise restraint and wait until the end of the season because none of us knew what happened until we watched it so let them have the same experience. I've seen this happen so many times with other reactors and I do think it can set up certain expectations. Now that this season has ended I will tell you that I did not like the back half of 4 when I first watched it. I loved watching them have to be separated and survive to find one another again. I do agree that I hate seeing other reaction channels go into certain seasons with certain expectations (especially low expectations) because of the comments left on their reaction vids. But surviving the apocalypse means they're going to have to resort to some heinous acts sometimes. And Rick hates that for Carl. Ish Ajac Hi Ish! You are so right!!! 😊 And Steve & Lacey are very good at these reactions, they watch and examine or question everything they see. They would be wonderful people to be around in an apocalypse! And be family too, like our group in the show. I think this episode is a hard one, our mindset is different, we, as pretty normal human beings don’t think like some of these writers do. I’m not sure if they are insane or Genius! The 3 things I saw in this episode, I never thought of doing! Or wouldn’t do!!! But for one, we do have child molesters in the world, unfortunately. I didn’t think these men would rape a child, I thought, what kind of people are they?! Did the apocalypse make them that sick or were they already like that? Were they in prison? 2, what was in the writer’s mind to have Rick tear though that man’s throat! I wouldn’t have thought of that, who would?! I would have felt powerless from protecting my son, or I would have died trying❣️ And the one we can’t spoil for Steve & Lacey, I wouldn’t have thought that either. Because it’s so sick & just wrong! I did wonder, why they were taking other people’s clothing. And where did they get all the food to feed everybody. Did they have great hunters to get deers, wild pigs or something? We’re they going to have their own thrift store of people’s clothes they robbed? Those are the things I thought. Then I thought, what a deceitful way to lure people in!

The bluray edit was "They're fucking with the wrong people" Which is the line from the comic book ..

The first thing he saw was the orange backpack which I believe they got from the guy Rick wouldn't stop the car for. 🤪 And who they saw eaten up at the side of the road, and that's when they stopped to pick up the backpack. Lol. 🤣

Yes! Favorite episode by the way, Andrew was so good in this one and a real trooper for that one scene. Fun fact, it was raw chicken he bite into with the fake blood-he hated it but did it because he wanted it to look real.
@darthken8155 жыл бұрын
Did not know that about the chicken. Ew. Andrew's a champ.

darth ken81 he talked about on Talking Dead, he was given a choice and he picked chicken since it’s more “flesh like”

That evil shit who tried to "claim" Carl, I think his death was too merciful. And Lacey, I'm surprised at you! You're usually Ms. Observant. First time I saw this ep, I went "Wait a minute" when they showed the orange backpack" and "Oh shit!" when the riot gear appeared. I will admit to not noticing Maggie's poncho and Bob's pants way back when. I can barely wait til 4x16.

I also feel like the flashbacks were almost a goodbye to the Farmer Life for Rick before he becomes...

Always liked this idea when I heard the show runner explaining it ... Rick sitting at the car covered in blood is supposed to be him at peace with what he just did. Not stressing out over it or dealing with guilt. He's in that state of mind, where he can accept his violent side, because of the peace he got to know with (and inspired by) Hershel.

Poor Andy. He tried to make it sound as badass as he could, but even he knew deep down that was a lost cause.

Why? The two words have exactly the same meaning? Honestly, I don't get people's infatuation with the f word.

@@gravitypronepart2201 I guess it just sounds more badass in general I think it’s weird to censor the f word. I don’t live in the US and I never got this whole censoring thing in their TV shows/ movies that are obviously for people age 18+ anyways like .. just why?

I can't wait for the reaction to the next episode. LOL Also Steve I think Lacy has it right. I think the point of the Hershel flash backs was to show the contrast of where Rick was mentally at the prison all calm as a farmer ,to where he is now tearing out throats with his teeth. It makes Ricks statement in the train car have more weight. It's Rick becoming the man he will need to be to survive this world. Shane was right about what needs to be done. Shane's approach was all wrong thou. No one was ready to do what needs to be done, and he tried to force it.

When they arrive at terminus, it perfectly sums up The relationship Rick and Daryl have. As soon as Rick grabs a person Daryl takes his crossbow and points it at the other people

This is the first episode the Bluray had an uncensored scene of Rick saying "They're Fucking With The Wrong People" just like the comics cause they cant drop F bombs on cable until last year they got an F pass twice a season, season 5 and 6 also have an uncensored bluray F bomb

hershell's scenes were to show how Rick has changed again.. not a farmer anymore..and they were trapped just like how they were making a trap for rabbits.

I also laughed Steve. So don't feel bad. I was like that? That's where they're gonna end?

The terminus storyline was one of my favourites
@HURRIC4NEyt6 ай бұрын
Hell yeah! Rick biting Joe's jugular out is my favorite scene in the whole show, so badass, so grusome and so terrifying! I like it a little more in the comics tho only cus Rick has one hand there so his situation feels more desperate there with him having a stump, but both versions are awesome
@MavenCree5 жыл бұрын
Insttead of saying "messing with", Andy kept saying "They're fucking with the wrong people." as it says in the comic... which also is just more natural sounding in this situation. Had to keep doing the take over and over. Sensors wouldn't allow the word back then... ripping a guys throat out with your teeth (which I call The Rick Grimes Maneuver btw) and near child rape is okay. A naughty word is too much though. Funny, also because now, the show just tosses out 4 or 5 swears per episode, if the content calls for it.
