Gosaikunda is a part of a 1,030-ha lake complex designated as a Ramsar site in 2007, covering 13.8 ha. It also feeds the Trishuli River, remaining frozen for half the year. With 108 surrounding lakes (kundas) and the majestic Lauribina La pass nearby, Gosaikunda is a breathtaking destination that blends natural wonder with deep spiritual significance.

KTM to Dupcheshwor or Ghyanphedi (Tentative time: 3-4 hours) You can take a local bus from the bus park, but if you have a 4x4 vehicle or a motorbike, you can reach Talu directly on the first day. Alternatively, you can choose to stay in Ghyanphedi, where Tamang homestays are available. From there, you can either walk 2-3 hours to Shishipu or take a local vehicle. Pathao services are also available from Dupcheshwor. Ghyanphedi to Talu The road from Ghyanphedi to Talu might be disrupted due to the monsoon season, so it's advisable to check with local drivers. If you walk from Ghyanphedi, it will take about 6 hours; from Shishipu, around 2.5 to 3 hours at a relaxed pace. I recommend staying in Talu for a day to immerse yourself in Sherpa culture and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Talu to Phedi The real trek begins from Talu, the last village on this route to Gosaikunda. The path is moderately challenging, with some steps that may get your heart racing, but rest shelters are available every 2 km. Phedi has two reasonably priced hotels, making it a good place to stay and acclimatize to the altitude of 3,700 meters. From Phedi, it takes around 3 to 4 hours at a relaxed pace to reach Suryakunda. You can take a break and relax at Suryakunda before walking down for about an hour to Gosaikunda. If you prefer, you can stay overnight at Gosaikunda, where hotels are available, though they may be more expensive compared to other locations. If you experience altitude-related discomfort, it’s advisable to descend to Lauribinayak or Chandanbari, where you’ll find a wider range of hotels. Since this route is popular, prices might be slightly higher than in previous locations. Next Day: Gosaikunda/Chandanbari/Lauribinayak to Dhunche The journey from Gosaikunda, Chandanbari, or Lauribinayak to Dhunche is primarily downhill, with some steep descents that might put pressure on your joints. Once you reach Dhunche, you can catch a local bus or use your own vehicle to return directly to Kathmandu. For those trekking to Gosaikunda via the Dhunche-Chandanbari route, consider returning via the Gosaikunda-Dupcheshwor route. This alternative is not only more economical but also quicker. Additionally, you can offer the sacred water of Gosaikunda at the Dupcheshwor temple, adding a meaningful spiritual element to your journey.
