Duplicate Destructive Bits in Studio 5000 and Mapping I/O to Fix It

Newish to programming so it had be baffled for a while as to why the yellow light stayed on even though the output bit on the same rung was not green. Then I remembered your previous video about the scan process from top to bottom. Even though the output bit in rung 0 is not green, it does in fact have a 1 in it during that time in the scan. Therefore making the output bit in rung 1 also having a 1, creating a true state on that rung. The green "true" on the bits can be deceiving. Thanks for the videos, have helped a lot in transitioning from maintenance into automation and programming.

Honestly the only people that were wrong on this one were the ones that said I shouldn't use duplicate destructive bits. If you gave some thought, put down an answer, then learned something from this video then well done. What I love about this exercise it is one of the most compact programs that you cannot solve without understanding the scan cycle.

This was absolutely fantastic and i loved having to critically think to get the correct response, i was on top of this and it made feel good amount my own self study over the past 6 months. I start a new job as a controls engineer in janurary and i look forward to your podcast to continue developing foundational skills crtical to success. I do not see myself as a toxic engineer in the field but instead want to learn the foundations and respect everyone. I learn more from maintaince techs and controls techs than i do some engineers. These podcast and videos are fantastic to leave it all at the door and continue to learn no matter skill level or experience

Ok so I believe I fully understand this finally. Thank you so the program reads all inputs on a rung then updates the outputs for that rungs information to the control tags then moves to the next rung and reads that rungs info and updates.

Don’t be embarrassed man.. When I started out like you I hated asking questions too. But then I realized the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I would rather someone ask me a question rather then go mess something up then I have to fox there mistakes.
