It's a bit more complex and long: EXO's mission to discover more about The Cause and their ominous plans to use NCT tech only ended up raising more questions that had them doubting just who was on the right side of justice. Additionally, RVX went off radar. The last logs that Agent Xiumin received showed the team intended to investigate a suspicious location. Digging further behind the origins of The Cause and RVX's disappearance, Agent Xiumin stumbles upon a scheme that links back directly to SM's management but he immediately disappears under mysterious circumstances. Agents Chen and Baekhyun go on the run, piecing up what they can from the information Xiumin had managed to collect: The Cause had originally been training to be agents within SM but abandoned the agency after discovering the real intention behind Project Gemini X, a classified scientific venture sponsored by SM supposedly researching stem cell technology but in reality, the project involved the duplication of SM agents to create clones and replace them one by one. Chen and Baekhyun realise the extent of the misinformation that they had been given in order to divert their attention away from SM CEO's (Taemin) scheming. They track down fellow rogue agent Kai and pledge their support after discovering that he had known of SM's unethical scheme long before they did, which was why he joined The Cause and Blackpink in an attempt to bring down SM. He had tried to warn his friends but was afraid of repercussions should SM intercept his messages. Jennie and Kai had attempted to meet the Professor and extract the information they needed many times, but their efforts were thwarted by the presence of Taemin's notorious personal assistant Joohyun. She was responsible for RVX's disappearance while Yerim, Taemin's hitwoman, was responsible for Xiumin's kidnapping. Following the agents' desertation, SM pushed ahead with its plans to introduce a highly-anticipated classified project titled Super M at the Future Generation Showcase. Super M is described as being the optimal security package to replace current security personnel and a demonstration is scheduled at the showcase's venue. Fearing a potential terrorist attack, the former agents along with The Cause and Blackpink quickly assemble and direct their efforts to retrieve the key to destroy the clones; infiltrate SM's lab and rescue Xiumin; and finally, stop Taemin once and for all. RVX's fate remains unknown.

From rewatching the last trailer linked to this, I’m guessing the Cube was just a distraction and was like, kind of an incomplete version of the NCT (since in this one it says Taemin is using a completed version). But my theory is that, if the Cube was a distraction before, it can now be used to enhance the agents fighting SM’s abilities and beat Taemin and stop his projects. However, if the Cube was taken back to SM (in the last trailer) to complete the NCT, then, I guess the agents don’t got anything to help them but their teamwork. I could be wrong. I’m writing this while I’m ded tired so....😅

Well, that's a nice take on it for sure. Of course it was tricky to link this. We figured Lucas after discovering the first clone and discovering what project Gemini X was, they took the incompleted technology to try and find a counter measure for Taemin's project with it. However, they never got further than enhancing themselves. They never managed to clone.
