This won't work. People don't have trouble aiming these shots correctly as they're obvious to sight. As per the video, it's unintended sidespin that throws the ball offline more than usual.

That is the worst advise... you have to practice to feel the center of the object ball automatically, the rest is shooting technique. I am Russian Pyramid player and straight in shots are the main positions for attack because the pockets are tight, If I would shoot the shot according to your advise I would miss most of the balls

Work on your stroke. It's ALL in the stroke. No such thing as a shot being any harder, simply because it's straight in. That's just a misconception, perpetuated by a sloppy stroke. Usually it's caused from squeezing the butt of the cue, or tension in the arm or the grip. Watch Efren, and notice how lightly he holds the cue. Best of luck!

I use inside English on those straight in rail shots but I aim just very slightly to the rail side (inside) of the object ball and not the outside as you suggest. Works to counteract the left deflection of the right inside English.

Try shooting the down the rsil shot using oversize bar room cueball or the under sized cueball used over in England and that shot becomes a whole different monster..... ... The practice drill i used for determining if i was hiting center ball involved 3 different drills using the full length (i skipped over the shorter accross the table test) of the table. Using some chalk as a easy target on center diamond.. I shot cue ball down and back till i connected 20 times in a row.... Then i would add an object ball on the break spot with cue ball half way between it and end rail and repeat the 1st drill but using draw so the object ball banks off the far end rail while the cue ball draws to the end rail im standing at and both should collide into each other full ball hit..... 20 times... Then with exact set up, would use follow shot and have the object ball bank fully in the cue ball some where towards the middle of table..... And the hardest for myself and still haven't achieved is to move the object ball down table to the rake or head spot and bank into a drawn stopped or following cue ball..... Im hitting the center diamond marked with the chalk accurate enough to pocket balls but some reason I'm imparting side spin to the object ball over that 80% or 6 /half diamonds segments(shows up on 7,8,9 ft tables and out of 20 attempts.. I'll achieve a full ball hit on the rebounding oblect ball - cueball collision.... 1 time of follow shot and 3 times with stop /draw shots...... The only thing I can think of is that the head spot dimple but i generally advoid any tables with dimple serve enough to cause head ball rack roll offs....... However.. Observing the cue ball and or object ball diverge from the shot line immediately tell me i wasnt on center cueball ... Im only refering to cue ball object ball that stayed on line and the object ball only came off rail off center... Ive move that drill over a diamond so to remove any dimple effect causing side spin but get same

I always hear about oversized cue balls, but have yet to see one at any bar table. Every bar table I've played on, including the crappiest tables, use a magnetic cue ball. I guess only very old tables use the oversized cue ball, and it seems like it's difficult to find such tables, although maybe that depends on where one lives.

Make sure you practice in both directions. When i picked up pool again i was noticing i was prefering to shoot to one side when i was practicing. Somehow subconsciously i was doing this. When i caught on i tried practicing to the other side..Boy was i missing a bunch. These long shots can be tricky. Besides unwanted english if you arent aligned properly it will throw off your shot. Another thing i was doing was trying to be to precise in my stroke and was i was tense. I always try and do if i can at least 25 of these shots before a match. Often i can tell if in my stroke just by that.

Best way is imagine the object ball as the pocket hole, in this way you will notice it is very easy to shoot it into a hole without an object ball from almost any angle or position, it is very useful in cutting the balls too. And in for a long reverse cut imagine your position like you are cutting a reverse cut in the inside half of the pool board in which you normally cut a lot of balls in that will make you easy to notify whether you cut the ball too thin or not. And another one is imagine the object ball as you are hitting as hard as you can with the cue and then adjust yourself to hit it at the right pace. Another one is imagine you are already releasing your cue for the shot, remember the release on your arm and repeat it. Another one is imagine your object ball as you are trying shoot a bank shot in the hole, imagine the hole as a wall for the bank shot

It can be really frustrating. Well I have to practice your drills now since I'm a beginner. Just wondering though, does the same concept work when the there's a longer distance between the cue ball and the object ball? Thanks in advance and I liked and subscribed, keep up the great content.

He didn't explain it very well. There are two factors at play when putting side spin on the ball. When you hit off center on the cue ball there will be some deflection which send the cue ball in the opposite direction of the spin. The other factor is elevation of the cue stick. The more elevated the stick you will start getting a masse/curve effect on the cue ball. So keep your cue stick as level as possible and hit centerline on on cue ball as much as possible.

In my opinion when hitting a long green str8 shot off the rail like that everyone always talks about hitting your CB with no unwanted spin and directly center shots and that all great, however in my opinion there are lots of times that its not any of the things I just mentioned. It’s not hitting the OB at the correct point of contact. Especially with the CB on the rail. It’s not hard to hit center mass but with the CB on the rail your not in your natural stance or natural horizontal level with your body. The point of contact on the OB is much smaller than people realize on that particular shot. Nice clip tho

do you have anything on how to do combination shots
@robertbyington7715
@robertbyington7715 5 жыл бұрын
The easiest way to learn to make combination shots regardless of the angle or distance is to imagine that the first ball is actually the cue ball, so you look at the first ball in the combo and say where does this first ball have to hit the second ball to make it in the pocket, then look at the shot from the pocket side this will tell you EXACTLY how much room you have to make the ball if there are other balls near the pocket. Finally hit the shot with soft (pocket speed draw.) this will put follow on the cue and leave the second ball near the pocket so you can use the next shot for position. Can’t tell you how many people hit the first shot two hard and blow the second ball out of the pocket not leaving them a shot. Hope this helps

@williamnettleton3413
@williamnettleton3413 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, so how you add spin and hit the ball and speed affect how the ball reacts when hit. Watch some spin tutorial videos and it goes through it. You usually have to compensate different spins.
@myblacklab7

If your back spin is perfectly straight, and the shot is perfectly straight, the only effect it will have will be to add topspin to the object ball. Achieving this type of perfection is the hard part.

Get down low on the cue with the stick level. Draw back only as far as you need to to make the shot. Concentrate on striking centre of the cue ball. Follow through at least as far as your back stroke and ensure this stays straight through to target on the cue ball. stay in your position - do not pull up, or stand up, away from the shot until the cue ball has hit the object ball...…....you will now make the shot!

@robertbyington7715 5 жыл бұрын
Put your cue tip on the table directly behind the cue ball and while you keep your back hand level (critical point ) raise the tip to the middle of the cue and smoothly stroke the ball. I had the same problem with draw what I thought was bottom was closer to middle so I did the same thing I started with my cue tip on the table and came up half a tip, then I losened my back hand and stroked through the ball problem solved. This works with extreme follow as well where you have to shoot a ball down the length of the rail and get the cue ball to the end rail. Raise your tip above the cue and then drop down 1 tip hit dead center with a smooth stroke . With practice this should help good luck

Earl Strickland uses all sorts of tape on his fingers, to the point that his hand looks like a mummy's hand. Maybe you could do something like that? If I played a guy with a deformed hand, I wouldn't object to him using various aids as a bridge. One thing I've been curious about is whether one could use a mechanical bridge all the time - I don't think there is a rule that prohibits this (although every league and tournament seems to make up its own rules about this sort of thing). You can get short mechanical bridges, adjustable bridges, etc.

Also if your feet and legs lined up right with the shot you will miss. Make sure when your stroking the cue it's going back and forth straight. If it isn't then it's your arm trying to work around your hips. A short back stroke and a loose grip with a sturdy bridge hand will help. But before you even get down on the ball, step back as far as you can and get down and look at your lineup. This will help to know right where to hit the cue ball. If you want to teach this game don't leave out the details. The truth is that people are not built to be pool players. The stance needed to play good feels very awkward at first. Then people get lazy cause they found what feels comfortable to them but it won't be right. This shot requires a near perfect stance. Maybe you got other vids for that idk but this should be mentioned.

Interesting observation - I've been tinkering with my stroke, and I've noticed that bringing my shooting arm towards my body brings it in contact with my body, which feels a little uncomfortable. Maybe I need to adjust my stance.
