It’s an incredibly complicated song to have structured this early in their career - just awesome, and the song that made me pick up a bass, that was 40 years ago and we’ve had some wild nights since then!
@gmansi Жыл бұрын
"It’s an incredibly complicated song to have structured this early in their career " Can you explain why?
@clauswilker4734 Жыл бұрын
@@gmansi I'd say because a lot of it is "against the grain" - John's heavily syncopated, pumping bass riff, Andy's metal-meets-funk guitar, Simon's close-to-rapping ("searching for the undeniable truth that a man is just a fool" - can anyone sum it all up better?), Nick's Keys in "duel" with the bass, and everything on Roger's solid carpet. "Complex" may be more fitting, perhaps. But Khanada was also pretty complex; and the My Own Way "Night version" is also pretty cool.
@gmansi Жыл бұрын
@@clauswilker4734 Thanks a lot for the explanation! Khanada and My Own Way!! The rhythmic base of "Anyone Out There" is one of my favorites too.
@clauswilker4734 Жыл бұрын
@@gmansi Nothing to thank for! So I guess Khanada and My own way - at least in the arguably better Night Version - push a button for you, too? Anyone out there is another one where I see your point. I read somewhere that John was responsible for the arrangements; which may explain why the bass has a rather more prominent role than usual. Which in this case is much more justified than with Overkill over the past 30 years... Just playing is the Night Version of Planet Earth - if I'm not mistaken, I have that one upstairs, too. Black generic sleeve vinyl, you know. Also an incredible stampede bass augmented by some funky rips, really dirty spots by Andy, a lone sax in the first half (and I think it's a real one) supported by more brass later (from 3:00). At some places, a bit less keys would have been more. IMVHO...
